A little over a month ago I started getting pains on my right foot and getting skin rashes, since this was the same time I lowered my lexapro dosage, I figured it was just an sx of tapering. Recently, I've also started to get pains in my right hand and wrist. I figured to have this checked out with a rheumatologist yesterday. I've been diagnosed with Arthritis (geez at 42!) but he was quite concerned that it was occuring TOGETHER with skin rashes. I was made to take blood tests as he is suspecting it could be lupus. I wont get results of all blood tests til tuesday next week. I am trying to be calm about
it but I am worried!
My aunt had lupus and it wasnt pretty. Would love to get your insights.. :(

Hi GP:)
I can imagine how this would cause you to worry...I would be worrying as well...not because I think that you are going to get a positive result, but because that is just how we roll around here, right?
Try to keep in mind that arthritis is common...and skin rashes are common. Also, you have adjusted your medication recently...all of these things make it entirely plausible that you have nothing to worry about
.
Your doctor is most likely being being very thorough, and wanting to rule every possible thing out through tests. There are various reasons why physicians do this...and unfortunately when we have anxiety, it is a very looooong wait for those results.
You will probably vasciliate between being confident that everything is fine...and freaking out. At least that is my MO! During the times that you are struggling with being scared...post here, and we will be here to calm your fears and support you.
Remember...all that you know at this point is that you have a couple of common symptoms, and a zealous doc.:) I think that everything is going to be fine.
Talk to you soon,
S.C.

Hi S.C.,
Finally was able to see my rheumatologist and I was informed that my tests were clear for any auto immune disease :)
He feels my skin rash is more viral in nature but If I really wanted to, I could see an allergologist to find the source. I may take that route.
I can deal with the joint pains.. As my doctor said, "life begins at forty" includes feelings those creeks and twinges :)
Thanks a lot for your comforting words last week! Hope all is well with you too!
