Hi subzero
first up congrats on the half marathon! very impressive :)
I'm sure a lot of people are doing it tough this Christmas. There have been so many people that have lost their jobs myself included. I was lucky and managed to get some part time work (i live alone so have no other income). It's only 11 hours a week which isn't great but with a bit of government assistance I can make ends meet. I just told my family that presents might be a bit scarce this year. They understood my situation and I'm sure your family and friends do too so try not to put too much pressure on yourself.
I know it's hard not think of your situation as a failure. I felt the same way when I lost my job. I was constantly thinking could I have done things differently and seeing all my friends living their lives, buys homes, starting families and I'm still struggling along. I started telling myself that this was just a small setback and everyone goes threw hard times. I did have to tell myself that several dozen times before I started to believe it :)
I don't know what country your in but in Australia it's possible to access government funded financial advisers. My parents went to one after my dad was forced to retire due to ill health. Maybe there is something like that or a not for profit group that offers financial services to people in your situation? It might be worth a look.
i hope things pick up for you in the new year
