Just a quick question for medication. I know you folk are not doctors and I am not going to adjust any meds without consulting first, etc.

I have Xanax and prescribed to take .5 mg 3x daily as needed. My new doc said he wasn't a fan of the half life of Xanax,so he wanted me to try Ativan at .5 mg 2x daily as needed. I took one last night and... Well I didn't feel much. Is it that it isn't a good fit for me, or is it that it is
too low a dose? Most of what I have read has said around 1mg. Again, I realize you are not doctors, but I would like some input from others.

Hi Jolleg, how long ago did you start taking Xanax? I'm assuming you have to give it time to start working. I'm currently taking Zoloft 125mg and I still have bursts of anxiety. I'm hoping it will go away soon once and for all. I am considering Cognitive Therapy as a form of coping with anxiety.

My suggestion is give it some time to help you however if you have been on it for some time you might want to seek a Dr's advise.

Hi Jolleg, in my opinion, and I am not a medical professional, you would best be able to determine the answer to that question based on your own level of anxiety.

I agree with oslooskar. It's really your call about the medication. Everyone is different in how they respond to different drugs.

With my experience of ativan, you do feel something pretty much immediately. However, everyone is different. I would call your doctor and see what he says about the dosage.

I have been taking 1mg once a night before bed for about 3 yrs for sleep/anxiety, My doctor decided that it was time to change my meds to 2mg of Ativan a day and also put me on 20mg of prozac!! Well first of all i kinda went into panic mode after being told he was changing my prescriptions around (scary) so i went ahead and tried it and it did not help me i was so anxious and it reversed instead of making my feel calm it made me feel jittery and i couldn't sleep! So anyways i went back to the doctor and he put me back on Xanax, and i am still taking the prozac witch was a huge help for me!! Good luck
