Cipralex for anxiety

Hi, I've began taking cipralex this is my 8th day taking them I felt a lot better the first 4 days in but now I've had 3 panic attacks which I never had before meds, and my mind is racing and I feel like I'm actually going nuts, any opinions ... Help!!! And also my panic attacks are like I'm on fire a burning tingling from my toes to my head.. And it goes up my throat. Thanks

This can happen when adjusting to a new medication, but I would really recommend contacting your doctor as soon as possible and letting them now you are having these experiences. They will known what the next course of action should be. Most likely there will either switch your medication to something that doesn't give you such strong reactions, or a sedative while your body adjusts.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.

Many medications can cause side effects. A side effect is an unwanted response to a medication when it is taken in normal doses. Side effects can be mild or severe, temporary or permanent. AS this medicaiton is an Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor it belongs to a group of meds that are known to often cause problems when you first starting taking them.  Usually the side effects will decrease once your body adjusts to the medication.

It usually take 4-6 weeks for you to notice the full effect of this med but your side effects shoule  gradually decrease after a couple of weeks.  Do talk with your Dr. if you find that the side effects are not tolerable as he may have some suggestions for you to help you through the first couple of weeks while your body adjusts.

Remember everyone is different so don't compare yourself to anyone else. I have been on meds that I did not tolerate while others posted they loved the medication and it work wonders for them.

Does anyone take the medicine called Cipralex?
I never like to take these types of meds. But, I have been..going through a lot for past year that my doctor thought I should try it. The first two days into it... i felt better...and slept through the night (I have insomnia sometimes), however....I started feeling very sick. Nauseated, i couldn't get out of bed or sleep without dragging myself out forcefully...extremely lethargic and dry mouth was scaring me because that was a symptom that i had a bad experience from a similar medicine. Bad tummy aches and my tenth day into it.. i have lost my appetite and...just feel horrid...and numb. I have stopped it and I can feel myself coming back a little..to wanting to eat finally or ..just move.
I know people say give it tie, but each day is worse. I stopped it and i woke up fast...i felt like getting out...even groceries again. The numbing was ok for a bit but...these side effects take your mind to a zombie state.

Hi Theresasheena and welcome,

If your s/e's from this Rx were making you feel so miserable, as in to the point of being incapacitated, then it probably was not the med for you.

I am sorry, as this can be frustrating when you just need to feel better, and the thing that is suppose to help you, makes you feel worse!

Talk to your doctor about an alternatives...there are many other medications that can be tried...as well as considering therapy as a long term anxiety managment option.
