This is a serious question even though it seems silly.
I recently started having massive anxiety and panic attacks. Since then, I have had a lot of gas. I never did this as much until these anxiety issues started. I've been "expelling air" constantly and also burping. I thought at first I was just gulping air (because sites said that could be a cause), but I haven't been anxious today and I have still been having gas issues.
It's important because it's extremely uncomfortable for me, not to mention embarrassing.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with gas related to anxiety?

Are you on any medication for anxiety? maybe the medication is causing this. Unfortunately with anxiety and panic disorder I have realized that we do have some form of anxiety everyday even we when feel like we don't. We are just able to control things better.

Oh yes! It's can get pretty bad at times and can be embarrassing. I think it's the stress cause extra acid in the stomach and causes the gas. I have no idea if it really does. It's just my personal theory. To help reduce it I take over the counter antacids (ask at a pharmacy and they should be able to help you pick one) and regularly take probiotics to help keep my gut healthy.
Take care

I was happy to read this because I was wondering the same thing. I cannot make myself burp, as hard as I have tried & I constantly feel like there is a bubble of air in my chest. I drink gingerale or sparkling water & it helps. The bubble feels like it's huge & when it's working it's way up I always think I'm gonna let a huge burp out & it's always this tiny little thing. I can remember growing up my grandmother always complaining about
her "nervous gas" and tapping her chest. She said her nerves gave her gas.

I'm taking lexapro, ambien, and hydroxyzine.
I've read that lexapro can cause gas, but I was on this medication before (I just started taking it again) and I've never experienced gas on it. I think it might be the anxiety.
I've been taking simethicone (but no more than the max dose) like crazy. Sometimes I try mint tea. I'll try the sparkling water or ginger ale. Does anyone else have this problem and have more suggestions?
