When I get up in the morning I am so sick I feel like I am going to die. The nausea is so profound and then there are about 50 other disabling symptoms. I have been checked and tested for everything.

Sometimes it gets a tiny bit better late in the day but for the past 6 weeks I am in bed staring at the ceiling and wanting to die all day and most of the night.

Can this really be anxiety??

As hard to believe as it is, yes, this can really be anxiety.

My heart is breaking for you. My most recent relapse had me so nauseous I could barely eat. I lost a lot of weight that I didn't really have room to lose. The things anxiety can do to us is daunting. Here is a helpful (I found it helpful) list of symptoms caused by anxiety.

Out of curiosity, are you on any medication?

Edit: I wanted to add that despite how massive this list is, at the end it does state "These are some of the more common anxiety symptoms. This list isn't exhaustive."

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I have no idea how I would manage if I was having the symptoms you are having; you are an incredibly strong person to make it through this.

Yes, as Jolleg said, it could be anxiety. It's also possible that there's still a physical cause that has not been discovered. Another possibility is that you could have developed a somatoform disorder. These are treated slightly differently than anxiety disorders. It might be worth looking into. Obviously I'm not a doctor, so I'm just throwing the suggestion out there for you to think about.

What physical illnesses have your doctors screened for? Have they checked for autoimmune disorders? I know you said they checked for absolutely everything, but its possible something was missed.

I hope you feel better. This sounds horrible.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.You are an incredibly strong person; I couldn't do what you're doing. Anxiety doesn't always come in the most obvious of ways...it has a way of destructing your whole body. Checking for autoimmune disorders might be the answer!

Yes had all the auto immune tests, lyme and over 75 - all OK

I have severe muscle pain - nausea (major) burning, shaking, insomnia and much more

If you can get an appointment at one of the leading multi-disciplinary academic medical centers, with special expertise in diagnostics -- such as, for example, Mayo Clinic in the US -- it might be worthwhile. It could be anxiety. But there are other possibilities too, and could be more than one thing.

It seems to me you are questioning what is going on.  I was told over a year ago after 3 pages of symtoms (nausea/puking heavily and 40lbs lost in a few months and I wasn't over weight) which came on sudden, the 15+ drs said  I needed mental help aka antidepressants.  At that point, I had never researed illnesses online as I felt you can talk yourself into having anything as I had always been very healthy.  However, I have always been very intuitivew ith my body and KNEW it was not in my head.  After researching 3 pages of symptoms,my gut told me I had Lyme disease.  The testing is only about 50%accurate and the longer you have it the less likely to to get a positive reading.  I chose a test that most insurance companies are not in network with called Igenix and very happy with my decision as it was more accurate and then saw a Lyme litterate dr who is amazing although I have to travel 8 hours to see him....He is well worth the trip.  It is unfortunate since I live in a major city but in the South, Lyme is VERY much dismissed. 

I am in no way saying you have Lyme but it may be worth a second look as Docotors can dx you with Lyme based on your symtoms.  Have you seen the movie on Hulu or youtube called "Under Our Skin"?  It will be well worth you time and if any of it resonates with you, I would strongly pursue a Lyme Literate dr.  My dr literally saved my life after 15 specialist found nothing or implied it was all mental.  Once Lyme crosses the Blood brian barrier the neuro smyptoms are very real but Long term antibiotics are really helping my entire healing.

James , I go through that all the time. I stay in bed all day. I call it depression. I just can't face the day and all my physical symptoms seems so much worse because of my depression. I don't know how to pull myself out of it. I sleep and stare at the ceiling. Maybe it is because I can't face old age or maybe it is because I have had so much sickness and so many operations, I don't know, but I just can't get out of bed and I am always nauseous. I am on oxycocet (percocette) and maybe that is doing it, I don't really know.

Have you been tested through Igenix? Mine were negative too but with the Igenix test I had 6 inderterimiate bands and they were Lyme specific and based on ALL my symtoms I was diagnosed. Another test that is typically low is the CD57 test which is your killer fighter immune cells. It is suppose to be around 200 normally. Low is 60 and mine was 28. I wanted to die...bed ridden the pain is horrific!!!

Unfortunately Lyme is a very political disease and needs much research to find effect testing! I think millions have it and are being misdiagnosed with FM, MS, ALS, Parkinson's, depression, aniexty, etc. Michael J Fox being one of them. He lost about 15 years not being able to act and know made a full recovery. He had Lyme!

I care! I have been where you are and had never been depressed or had anxiety and now at least those symptoms are MUCH better! :-)

What are your symptoms? What state do you live in? Have you watched the movie?

James -- you see what happens with these situations:  one person says maybe it is anxiety.  another says maybe depression.  someone else says maybe lyme disease.  you probably have your own guesses, from internet searches and the like, about what it might be.  everyone is trying to be helpful, but they lack any medical knowleldge, so it is essentially just guessing.  This can lead to a sort of wild goose chase -- you get some idea what it might be, you go get some tests, it turns out negative, then you get some other different idea what it might be, and the pattern repeats itself.  Meanwhile, you suffer pain and  symptoms and frustration and spend a lot of time and money.   That is why i suggested that you ignore the descriptions of various diseases one finds on the internet and the wild-guesses of very well intentioned but not expert people, and instead go to a leading multi-disciplinary academic medical center, where you can be seen over a period of a couple of days by doctors in a variety of fields (neurology, psychiatry, internal medicine, infectious disease, GI, maybe rheumatology, etc.) who are expert at diagnostics and who -- importantly -- also communicate with one another.  I mentioned Mayo as an example.  Cleveland Clinic is another that does this.  And there are others.  This will take you some time and cost you some money.  But it might be your best chance to find out what is going on and start on road to recovery.  My guess is your life and well being is worth more than 2 or 3 days and $2500 or so to you.  My best wishes to you, Medved

I know this was posted a long time ago, but I wanted to share my experience. I am a 23 y/o female with chronic abdominal pain (starting at about 5 years old) and so debilitating at times that I have been regularly hospitalized. My latest occurrence I spent 6 months in the hospital because I knew I would kill myself if they let me go. The pain was just too unbearable. Narcotics and pain medication did not even touch it. They tried to put me in a mental institute but my doctor wanted me to see one more doctor before we resorted to that. Within the first session, she scheduled an angiogram for me and shortly thereafter I was diagnosed with MALS. I have been about to control it with diet for two years but am going to have the corrective surgery done soon anyway. My symptoms are abdominal pain, persistent nausea, mucus in the stool, constipation or diarrhea, gastroparesis, and constant fatigue. I also go into a fit of shakes that I can't control when I have an "attack" that nobody can explain. I experience extreme degrees of feeling hot all over and sometimes I've ran the coldest water that would come out of the faucet and laid in the bathtub to cool off. I lived like that for so long. Try cutting fat out of your diet and eating a lot of alkaline vegetables (bell peppers work for me) and see if that doesn't make you feel better. If it does, go get an angiogram. This is not a widely recognized disease in America, I had to come to Germany for treatment. It's worth looking into!!
