Was suppose to have my first therapy session and the therapist was nowhere to found. I text her this morning at 9:00 am asking her to confirm and called 3 times. Nothing! My appointment was at 7:00 pm today and I only received a call from her at almost 7:30 pm. Honestly I was so upset I didn't pick up and she didn't leave a voicemail message. I chose her because she's about 2 blocks from my apartment but I wasn't going to go out without her confirmation in the brutal cold weather we have in NYC. I'm just pissed off and very disappointed, I was really looking forward to starting my therapy. Not very happy right now mad

That's horrible! And the fact she didn't even leave a voice mail is unprofessional and rude. Did she come recommended by someone? Granted its nice to have a therapist so close to home. But perhaps you should think about getting a referral from someone. Maybe your primary care doctor's office could give you some names. They may be a little farther away than two blocks from your house, but worth the trip. Hang in there. You'll find the right therapist.

I looked up therapists on on my insurance plan and she was one of them. I'm going to take your advise and get a referral from my primary Dr. Thanks for the advise.

Hi Jazz,

Sorry to hear what happened to your first therapy appointment.

I agree with specialone. It was very unprofessional of her. She didn't leave a good first impression at all. Did she say why this happened?
I think you should look for someone else.

I hope you find a good therapist. Keep us updated.

Just to play the devil's advocate here...

...sometimes therapists have emergency appointments that come up.

Perhaps she was not able to return your call for a valid reason? Maybe you should hear her out, then make a decsion to look for somone else?

Just a thought...and yes, you have every reason to feel dissapointment! It takes a lot of energy and effort to prepare for your first appointment...

...but I would seek to know the full extent of the incident before you make the next move.

Did you cancel the appointment? Or were you a no-show? Perhaps the therapist did not receive the messages from phone service?

I have only had one office ever ask for me to return calls to confirm appointment

Certainly check it out, but withhold anger until you understand what happened. Certainly, you might want to ask for reccomendations.

Thanks for the advise. She left me a voicemail today saying she never looks at her text messages. I might make another appt but I'm not very certain I will. I think I will look into someone else. I will keep you posted.

If you want to look for another doc you could always try the website ratemds.com. I check it out alot when I am trying to find a specialist since I'm not familiar with alot of them. It's nice to get the personal reviews. Just a thought.
