New to Zoloft-- now have red eyes and canker sores

My husband began taking Zoloft (12.5 mg) last Tuesday. He was experiencing anxiety issues. Since then he has developed red bloodshot eyes and canker sores. He emailed his doctor and the doctor didn't feel that this was a side effect of Zoloft. He wants him to stay on in one more week before he sees him. He thinks these minor issues will go away. Has anyone had these symptoms?

I really don't like the way my husband seems to be "disconnected" since he's been on Zoloft. He was much more active and had more energy before he started Zoloft.

The disconnection sounds like a fairly common side effect, and should improve with time. After all, you are asking the med to take down the level of anxiety...and therefore it is going to have a somewhat 'numbing' effect overall, until the body and mind get accustomed to the change...

That is why it is also recommended that those with anxiety also seek therapy, so that you can take the lowest level, or no Rx's (not possible for everyone of course) to avoid the unwanted side effects of the meds.

The red eyes and canker sores I have not heard of with and SSRI...I wonder if it could just be a coincidental virus?

I am sorry to hear of all of this. It can be frustrating to find what works for any individual in terms of treatment.

I would recommend sticking it out as the doctor said, unless the s/e's become worse.

It does take time...try to be patient with the process...recovery is worth it!
