Hi Vivianna and welcome.
Night time anxiety is the worst. Everything can just seem more threatening in the middle of the night!
Even after I conquered the day time panic that I was experiencing...the nights continued to be an issue for me.
It took a long time for me to be able to get past waking up in a panic.
Some things that helped were:
Using breathing and relaxation techniques every night before bed...even if I was feeling relaxed (see our Resource Guide for these exercises)
Cutting out not only caffeine, but t.v. and computer a couple of hours before bed time.
Getting a good workout several times a week (but again, not within a few hours of bed.
If I do wake up worrying, I use a positive mantra to repeat to myself, as I do a breathing exercise.
I might repeat:
"I am okay, it is just anxiety making me feel this way."
or
"I am going to breathe in calm and rest, and breathe out worry and stress."
Any comforting phrase that works for you is good.;)
As far as being nervous around people...social anxiety is pretty common for those with anxiety in general. There are some good self-help books available that could help you to learn techniques to cope with your fears. I will post them at your request.:)
I am glad that you have found us and hope that you continue to post. I am sure that you will find lots of understanding and support here!
