Hi Carol :),
There is definitely a connection between pain and anxiety. Pain can cause anxiety...and anxiety can exacerbate pain, so it is a bad cycle between the two!
Do you have access to a pool? That is the ultimate low-impact exercise! If not, how about an exercise ball? Believe it or not, just bouncing on a large exercise ball is aerobic. Any exercise that uses the major muscle groups, such as quadriceps, glutes and abdominals will get your heart rate up. By bouncing you are forcing your quadriceps to work, like an assisted sqat. Just make sure that you have something behind you to keep you from falling backwards, and hold on to something in front such as the back of a chair.
Get your doctor's approval, and be safe!:)
Best wishes,
S.C.
