Waiting game...

I am going to start off by apologizing for this post because it is going to be a long one. With that being said, let me start:

Okay, so I think when I last posted I was switching from Effexor to Celexa and never had the chance to get back on here. I did switch to Celexa, however, I was taken off of that and my Klonopin cold turkey on April 26th when I was admitted to the hospital. Let me explain what happened...

I started the Celexa on April 20, 2013. On Monday, April 22, 2013 I started working out with a personal trainer. (my PCP cleared me to do so). We worked my legs that session which included an hour of various exercises. I was sore immediately after I worked out with him. I thought nothing of it...I had just exercised, I was supposed to be sore, right? Tuesday morning, I woke up and tried to get out of bed and fell back down on to my bed because my legs were nothing but total knots and cramps. I eventually got myself out of bed, and even though extremely sore (and painful) I went on with my day. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 I went to work out with my personal trainer again, this time another one hour session but to work all of my back muscles. That workout wasn't so bad, but my legs were still killing me!! (And I have a high pain tolerance level). After my workout on Wednesday, I urinated and noticed my urine was slightly darker than normal. I had been drinking 10-12 bottles of water a day for over a week, so my urine should not have been dark at all. Anyway, I figured I would call my PCP the following day and see what they said. Thursday rolls around and I call my PCP...they tell me to come into the office to give a urine sample (at this point is was brown...and I was a nervous wreck). They immediately tested it at the office and said that I had very large amounts of blood in my urine. What the heck!? They told me not to worry (yeah, ok!) and that they would call me later in the day with the results. What a long day waiting. I hadn't heard anything from them by 6:30 pm that night and I know they close at 7 pm so I called my PCP's office. They told me that I just had a severe UTI and that they were calling Bactim in for me and to pick it up and start taking it immediately. I went to the pharmacy, picked up the bactrim and took my 1st pill. Friday morning, I took another Bactrim and another in the early evening. When I went to the bathroom around 7 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013, my urine was totally and completely BLACK!!!!!!! I FREAKED!!!

I called my PCP and he said not to worry, just discontinue the Bactim and see them on Monday. HA! Yeah right...I wasn't comfortable with that so I went straight to the E.R. They ran blood work and a Urinalysis. I was admitted IMMEDIATELY and sent to ICU and put on continuous IV Fluids and monitored very closely. MY CPK levels were OFF THE CHARTS at 186,686. (Normal range is 20-100).

So what was I admitted for? Rhabdomyolysis. I know a lot of you aren't even going to know what this is, and for to explain it, would be too hard. Easier to google it, sorry. Anyway, I was in the hospital for a week and they said they were also testing me for Porphyria. TWO big words that I had never heard of before and 1 I definitely had and the other is still pending! UGH.

You are probably wondering why I went into so much detail. I don't blame you. I told you the whole story because I have never heard of Porphyria before and if I do have this disorder, there is a huge list of medication that I can never take...most of the SSRI's are on the list. Also, did you know that Celexa could cause Rhabdo? I didn't...but yep, it says it under possible side effects. The Dr.'s told me I "brewed the perfect storrm". Whatever, I don't want to hear that...I want to know what I can take if by chance I do happen to have this Porphyria!! I do think I would be able to take Prozac...

Has anyone else ever heard of this or have it happen to them, and by that, I mean the Rhabdo?

Also, experiences with Prozac...good, bad, indifferent? Any information at this point would put my mind at ease a bit...

It has been since 4/26 that I have had any anti-anxiety medication and boy does it stink! Withdrawals to go along with everything else. I feel like I am falling apart right now!!

How scary for you! Its scary to not know what new meds will do for you. I just read about it online and it scared the wits out of me. I hope your getting better day by day. I will also keep u in my prayers.

Both of the issues talked about here in this post are extremely rare.

If you are prone to anxiety by googling...please do not look anything up on the subject.

All that I have read about these issues points to the fact that they are not commonly occuring, so it is not a reasonable fear to worry about it happening to you.

I googled a medical website and read what is was but it doesn't surprise me if people get anxiety from the articles! Some of them will give u heart failure reading them!

I am praying that you are going to hear the best of news on Thursday. I am sure that everything is going to be just fine.

I agree that if the only 'helpful' input that your P-doc had was to tell you to follow your dr.s orders...then he is not of much use to you.

I mean, duh...of course you are going to do that! You may want to find somebody who can offer you insight into how to deal with this from a mental standpoint...I mean that would be his job right?!?

I'm so glad you laughed! I just read this in the middle of a really really boring meeting and mist have had a big stupid smile plastered on my face cause my boss asked me what was so amusing. Needless to say I fumbled for recovery, haha.

I have been supplementing with 5HTP for about a week now, feeling some noticeable differences in mood. On occassion when I'm having a tough time of it I will take Xanax as needed. Lately it's been at night to calm down the rush of thoughts so I can sleep.

I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to discuss some long-term SSRIs, I'm still not sure where I land on that. I think I'm making significant progress with CBT and by facing my anxieties head on. It's a process with a few back steps here and there but I'm finding that CBT and re-training my thoughts is working best for me.

Anywho I'm going to listen to see what the doctor has to say. She sent me a research paper to read on the different types of medicines used to treat anxiety, basically it says if someone's involved in CBT medication may help but it should be at small doses so as not to completely drown out one's ability to use self-coping tools.

So...I'm not sure about the SSRIs...but boy do I need some help sleeping at night! I've got a frog that sat outside my house a croaked every 5 seconds. I had to apologize and excuse myself from bed at 2PM after going nuts listening to the frog, crawled up to the second floor bedroom and konked out. Wife is also pregnant so she is not sleeping well, moving around, shifting, and noticeably snoring...She's handling the pregnancy much better than I am, she says she sleeps like a baby!

Differences are GOOD. I feel generally more energetic, positive, sometimes just happy and content. For me it's a good difference. I like 5 HTP but you should talk with your doctor about it if you want to try it because it does have some interactions with SSRIs that I've read about. I haven't told my doctor but will tomorrow, I wanted to try it out. Apparently it works kind of like an SSRI so you have to build it up in your system over a few weeks. I've been taking about 150mg to 200mg/day.

I also started taking a daily supplemental vitamin again and just recently added fish oil. I think whatever we do to help ourselves goes a long way to resolving the problems. It's certainly possible fish oil isn't going to do jack about my anxiety but I'm trying it out.

Yes, first baby! We don't know what we are having yet but we are doing the 3D ulltrasound tomorrow. In China the doctors actually are not allowed to tell you the gender because of the one child policy (which doesn't apply to me and my wife) there tends to be selective choices made in a lot of families who want a boy. Personally I don't care if its a boy or a girl I just want a happy healthy baby! Can't wait to see what this 3D ultrasound is about, sounds fancy...but this is only the third time I'm going with my wife to her prenatal appointment so I've missed the other ultrasounds so looking forward to this one!

Boy, oh boy, you guys make me want to go have my vasectomy reversed, lol, like a 71 year old needs a
baby, but if by some chance one came into my life I would cherish it. The epitome of innocence displayed in the flesh! You two are experiencing the true meaning of Love.
Somethings about vitamins, fish oil is great it will also help regulate triglycerides, CO. Q-10 my cardiologist told me if he was just going to take one vit, it would be CO Q-10, K2 and D3 are fantastic for bone strength. A large study on women showed that K2 can remove calcium from the arteries and place it in the bones, new studies are being done on men.
