Hi people im new to this forum so ill get right to it .For around 2 weeks now my brother has been breaking down not eating and not sleeping all that much , i am so worried about him its unreal .I had not noticed it was that bad until the other day when he broke down infront of his daughter and it would be something he would be very against doing , anyway im just really posting to see if this is anxiety , depression or anything else.I should add he suffers mild tourettes and hes talking like theirs no point in anything now .


p.s im sorry if thats a bit all over the place but any help would be nice thanks x

I'm not sure what is going on.

I just wanted to extend my sympathy for your situation and tell you that I'm glad he has you. :)

Do you think you could talk him into seeing someone to get help? Does he have another doctor that you or another family member could call?

Anxiety and depression can both cause you to lose your appetite, as well as to have break downs, of sorts.

There are people in this forum much wiser than myself, so maybe one of them will be along with better advice shortly. :)

In the mean time, I'm sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!

I was at the doctors with him today and they just gave him panic tapes? like relaxation tapes.I think ill try go back if this escalates because i dont like to see him like this and im not really what to say to his daughter at times (shes only 4)

If the doctor thinks its panic they can do a lot more than some tapes. Although helpful long term if its serious enough he can get some medication to help short term. Ask specifically for Xanax. Depending on his situation the doctor can also prescribe an anti depressant or SSRI like Prozac. It has stigmas, sure, but its one of the staple medications for anxiety and depression. Also he should look at cognitive behavioral therapy which is proven to be as effective as SSRIs in managing anxiety and depression. Pills and CBT see proven to be even more effective in combination.

If you have no choice than to see this wanker doctor ask him or her for a psych referral.

Check for group therapy, or some one on one help it costs but what price can you put on a Brother!

Lots of hugs and love for baby girl! :) I don't think there's much you really can say to such a young one. I have a very young niece with a difficult situation at home, too. I have no idea what to tell her sometimes, either. I've noticed, though, that after being held, walking hand-in-hand, painting her nails, etc. she seems to smile longer, though. May just be her personality, but physical connection seems to help her a lot. :)

I agree with others - I'd look for someone else to provide care. I'm glad to hear he's willing to try to get help, though. A pdoc would be a very good thing, if that is accessible.

Thanks everyone , ill definitley look into alot of the things you have all suggested . Its been quite hard to see him so down but at least we can try to help as its out their now , ive re booked the doctors and im hoping after that to get him speaking with other people with similar problems although i dont want to suggest that at the moment because i think hes struggling to get his head around what happening
