Daughter is stopping meds

My 17 year old daughter has ADHD and depression though has become much stronger through therapy and simply growing up o deal with the issues she's had to sort through. She's been on lexapro for 1 month then stopped and Zoloft for another month. Because of some side effects such as weight gain, edema, cystic acne and higher blood pressure we believed were side effects, she wanted to come off Zoloft-50 mg cold turkey. I've supplemented her with fish oil, Vit D, Mg/ Ca/ B complex/ multi vitamin, iodine, exercise and sunlight.. She's been off now 5 days and has had brain zaps for which the Benedryl helped and slept her way back from a migraine. I am beginning to believe I've let her make a mistake going cold turkey but we had thought it was only 2 months of such meds. ?? Any suggestions or encouragement for us are very much appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you Larry for your response and prayer.  We are both well and handling things alright.  But, to be sure and cover the bases~ I just called to inform her doctor about 15 min ago.  Will see if/ when he calls back.

I just read the link on the site to On the Road To Healing and some recommended supplements such as Omega 3/ fish oil and E. Have adopted such dosages today.

 

Do you think we are headed for an emergency since you mentioned it?

All anti-anxiety drugs are strong&after 2weeks they are already in your system,so for a month are a year are longer,the time don't matter at all&brain zaps are no fun. I find it kind of weird tho anytime I would miss my zoloft are try to stop it cold turkey,I would have the brain zaps& no enery are desire to do anything&even seziure like movements I couldn't control. Was on zoloft from 14-28&it stop working when I was only told to take 1 100mg I would find myself taking 2 through the day just tp get through,at one point I thought I didn't need meds anymore. So my doctor started to wean me off zoloft took me from a 100mg to 50&then I was to go on to 25mg and so on. Never made it to 25mg life changes had me taking 2 50mg to get back up. Until she just took me right off&told me to start taking the prozac,which I think was a mistake&cost me a stay in the hospital for five days. Nothing major my mind jist wasn't clear,got off xanax with no problems&when I say it was heavy in my system. Doctors order one in am&night and xanax is to be a powerful med&I was on the strongest one,I say all this because to me zoloft is strong in my case was stronger then xanax&caused me more problems coming off and can be hard. But if she desire to stay off after 2weeks of hell. She should be back to good with no brain zaps,thats what my doctor told me and to each their own. Hope she gets better real soon
