GI appointment tomorrow -- SCARED

In 2009 I was dealing with a fear of having colon cancer because I was seeing blood in my stool. I saw a number of doctors but never got scoped.

After seeing blood in my stool again recently, I have once again been sent into a panic/depression relapse and have been feeling sick to my stomach everyday for two weeks, no appetite, loss of interest in anything, panic attacks, and all that jazz.

I have a GI appointment tomorrow and I am SO afraid that I'm going to get bad news.... Can anyone offer some comfort or assurance or relief? I'm 26/male.

It's been four years since your last episode of symptoms and you're still okay. You're also pretty young for that kind of thing. Unless you have a pre-existing chronic colon condition, I think you're too young to be at much risk. I think it's pretty unlikely that it's cancer. :)

There are lots of simple things that can cause blood in your stool. It could be as simple as needing some medication or a need to eliminate something from your diet.

I will be praying for good results - I think they'll be answered. ;)

I have seen so many posts just like yours...and have had similar circumstances myself of worrying about a health issue...and it has always turned out to be allright.

I am sure that tomorrow will play out the same way! The good news is that you are taking steps to get the answers that you need...and that will put your mind at ease.

If the blood was red or pink you have a hemorrhoid but let the doctor do a good work up, I have never heard of anyone your age having anything bad wrong. Your letting fear run your life, get help. Peace

The doctor was extremely professional, kind, and understanding. He recommended that, to relieve my anxiety over this problem once and for all, to do a colonoscopy. Of course I'm very nervous about doing this procedure but I think finally knowing once and for all that this is NOTHING to worry about is more than worth the anticipatory anxiety. I am going to try my hardest to take the plunge and get through this procedure so I can HOPEFULLY put my mind at ease pertaining to this specific health issue.

Has anyone had a Colonoscopy? I'm only 26, the doctor reassured me that he definitely does not think that he will find anything "bad" and while it's nice to hear it only helps to a certain extent.

I'm glad to hear that you found a good doctor. :)

I have not had a colonoscopy before. One of my co-workers used to have them on a regular basis. From what I understand, they're not as scary as they sound.

I had my first one in May.  I also had the End scope at the same time.  Believe me I was on this board  very scared and nervous!........I do not like being put under either, so I

was a wreck to say the least.

The prep is the worst part, drinking all that liquid is pretty bad.  Ask for MoviePrep, as it is 1/2 of the usual liquid.  I found this out after I had mine  ;(

Get the earliest apt you can get, because you will be very empty!.......Once the nurse started the IV, I do not remember anything.   The next thing I knew, I was dressed and waiting in the lobby for my ride.    I have no idea how I got dressed, LOL.

Anyway, just take a deep breath and know that as soon as they start that IV, your test will be over!

Yours will be better than mine, because the doctor I had was a total jerk!

The prep is the worst. Make sure the day before you start the prep to eat light and the prep will be easier- learn from experience!
