Hi R.L. and welcome.
I am so sorry to hear of your accident, and the anxiety that it seems to have re-awakened.
I am relieved to hear that you did get thoroughly checked by a doctor after the head injury...as my first thought was that this may not all be from anxiety...but if you have been given a clean bill of health....ie, no concussion...then it is safe to then concentrate on treating the anxiety as the culprit.
Illness, accidents or any traumatic situations similar in nature can bring on anxiety/panic. I am sure that it was scary to go through what you did...and it was just enough to tip the anxiety scales and bring back the symptoms from the past.
You mentioned using medication previously. Are you considering going back to this form of management? You can certainly talk with your docotor about this possibility.
If however, you are seeking alternative ways to deal with this issue this time around...there are other ideas that we can recommend here.
Therapy is an excellent choice for anxiety management, one that I and many others here can recommend. You will learn many skills and gain tools to help you to lower your stress levels, and reduce symptoms through your working with a professional. CBT is especially effective and popular for treating panic disorder.
Self-help is another great option. We have some great ideas in our Resource Guide (main page, 1st post) that you can get started on today! Start with the breathing and relaxation exercises, do them regularly, and see how you feel in a week or so.
Continue to post with us as well. We have a great group of members here who are always ready to understand and offer support.:)
Talk to you soon,
