I read that repetitive prayer can be a compulsion or a symptom of OCD.
I do that. I never crank my car without praying. If I realize I've left without praying, I do it then. I often repeat the Lord's Prayer out loud while driving. Especially if there's bad weather. If I have to drive in snow or ice, for example, I might say the Lord's Prayer over and over for the entire drive.
The thing is, I mean, I was taught to "be in constant prayer" so I wonder how you even know if it's compulsive behavior or just, hey, I'm religious.
I'm going to ask my therapist about this if I can remember next week, just wondered what you guys thought.
Moderators - I know there's a rule about overtly religious posts, but my point is really about whether it's a symptom or not. If this is against the rules, please delete for me and forgive me! I apologize in advance, if not okay!

Hi BeRock,
If you say prayers for normal reasons, it is not a symptom of OCD. However, if you do it because if it triggered by religious fear, then that's a symptom of OCD.
Your therapist may be able to give you a right answer and explanation.

I pray a lot for normal reasons.
I pray a lot in the car because I feel like if I don't, I will break-down or wreck and kill someone. I'm not sure that's normal. lol

You know Kid I don't really care what someone thinks, Prayer gives peace and a sense of calm, so the opinions of so called experts that probably are non believers just isn't important to me,
My favorite Prayer for blocking stress is the Rosary, its repetitive, I am not Brand conscious and not trying
to promote my choice, but repetitive Prayer of any kind helps, if thats OCD then I will die with it on my
Breath! Could it possibly be any worse than a favorite Mantra, Or meditation, Or Yoga. Be you are a
Beautiful and Compassionate Soul do what You Want! Sometimes you need to send the Super Girl Cape to
the dry cleaners. Have you ever thought that what you considered OCD may be a subconscious way to distract from PAD? Well I do Love you and I don't see any faults, Period. Peace

Larry! I love you! :)
I don't know how to pray the rosary. I may look that up. It would make my Catholic uncles pretty happy.
You may be right about the OCD.

I dont think its a sign of ocd. I pray during a drive, I pray when an ambulance goes by, before I eat blah blah blah. Larry is right... The people who say its ocd are probably non believers, and thats ok, to each their own, but what you do is norm. I wouldnt change my ways. And the rosary is my favorite also. look into it :)

It is nice to have faith and if you believe it helps you pray, I say pray anytime you feel like it. Your faith is not tainted by your condition, because you believe. The OCD part is what makes you worry about it and it bothers you, it creates you problems in your life. My OCD therapist told me there was a woman that had OCD , she believed if she didn't pray some amount of times , a plane could crash. So she would pray and pray and panic , she will feel it was her fault if something bad happened , if you don't have something like that then don't worry. Praying before driving is normal, while driving just make sure you pay attention. I think what you have is normal because you can drive and it doesn't bother your daily routine.
take care
