Went to the gyno today for my follow up after ultrasound for fibroids.  she said I need to take progesterone for a month or have a d&c or a biopsy.  ugh  I have no idea.  I don't want to feel like I have pms for a month.  it gives me fluttery heartbeats - i'm afraid i'll have those more if I try the progesterone.  she said I have a thickened uterine wall and my uterus is swollen.  all I need right now. 

anyone have any experience in this????

I don't, but I can understand your concern! Is this hormone treatment to attempt to shrink the fibroids?

Why are you expecting to have the PMS side effects? Did your doctor tell you that this would be a result?

I do think that I would take the hormones over a D&C or a biopsy...as it is your only non-invasive choice.

I am sorry that you have to deal with any of it though.:(

she said i didn't have any really - just fibroid like tissue throughout - it was like a golfball in the middle. ?? just a thick lining.

no just because during pms our bodies produce more progesterone and that is what I would be taking. I've googled consumer reviews - some women say they feel preggo or pmsy and some who are in menopause, say they feel better. i'm not in menopause. idk synthetic hormones I've always heard are not good.

I haven't dealt with this myself but my mom has. She got the biopsy and everything turned out alright. Its kind of up to what you want to do! A d&c or a biopsy can be painful during, but its over quicker.
Hormone treatments do cause side effects in some people, but everyone is different. I understand why you would be hesitant though, I'm a little afraid to take hormonal birth control myself, which is probably similar. I did take it for a month and it really wasn't bad at all looking back, my anxiety was what made it seem bad.
Anyway, you might not have any side effects at all. There's also no reason why you couldn't stop the meds if they were making you really uncomfortable.

I'd discuss this option with your doctor. See if you could try the meds and if they make you feel too bad, would there be any negative ramifications of stopping them early?

Also, did she say whether one treatment or the other was more effective? I tend to be aggressive with stuff, sometimes.

what I don't understand is the biopsy doesn't shed the lining.  the other 2 do 

so confusing.

I kinda just want to do the biopsy but scares me for some reason.  the pamphlet I have on it says at the top if you have a heart murmur or vitral prolapse (or whatever it's called), then let us know beforehand.  wonder why?  I don't, but just weird.  ha  but doc says it hurts for a minute.  ugh

I imagine they want to know about the heart murmur or prolapse so that they can be informed as to what type of anesthesia is most appropriate. It's probably not a terribly big thing.

I had a heart murmur as a youngster (guess I still do? Don't know if you grow out of that? lol), and it sometimes affected things as simple as dental procedures.

I'd try not to focus too much on that, if you don't have one of those issues.

Good Morning,  sorry to read you having issues but I understand your concerns.  Back a few years ago when I went in for my yearly physical with my OB/GYN all of a sudden I heard her tell her nurse to set up for a biopsy.  I know my heart did a run of PVCs because I am pretty quick and I figured  as I was the only one in that exam room with my legs in the kind of stirrups you don't use for riding horses that she was aiming to torture me.  redface

After a couple of big breaths, the Drs. explanation and telling myself it would be over in a very short time the biopsy was done.  The lab report was normal........... however I was glad the biopsy was proof that I was OK.

I don't have any input re the hormones but as the patient you do have the right to clarify if the biopsy can be done without taking the HRT.  Just a thought.

yes she said I can just do the biopsy. they want me to take the progesterone to see if it gets rid of the thick lining. if it doesn't, they have to do one of the other to do a biopsy or d&c to test the tissue. my cardiologist just informed me that the drop of estrogen during your cycle is what causes the pacs, pvcs. not the progesterone. it's the hormone that increases during pregnancy. I would feel preggo probably - bloated and yucky for awhile. sounds fun!!

kitt - was the biopsy painful? I've heard it is. I had a test done years ago for an abnormal pap smear and that was painful I remember but I had a shot of lidocaine I think.
