When to increase medication?

I was wondering when it is time to increase medication. I am on 75 mg of Effexor (venlarfaxine) right now. The extended release capsules. I am a bigger guy so I kind of want to increase my dosage and see how that goes. I like this medicine so far. No real other symptoms but headache, sweating and feeling hot. It seems to be working to an extent . That's why I'm wondering if increasing the dosage would really do the trick. I have been on Effexor for a little over a week.

I am with S.C. on this one. Adjusting any prescription of any kind without discussing it with your doctor in advance, is not a good idea. Plus, generally speaking, it usually takes a few weeks for your body to adjust to the starting dose and reach an optimal blood level and suss out any possible side effects.

What I would do is follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. Are you scheduled for a follow up within the following month to evaluate how you're doing on the medication? I would bring it up at that time. When a "little" is good, that does necessarily mean "more" is better, especially if it's done too soon.

I would give your body some time, and discuss it with your prescribing doc. I'm glad you are happy with this med thus far! Isn't it wonderful when something feels like it's working well?
