7 year old son getting teeth pulled tomorrow - nervous wreck!

my little boy is getting teeth pulled tomorrow (3) and 2 cavities filled in the same visit. ugh  one filling fell out so they have to replace. 

anyway, i'm wondering if i'm doing the right thing.  I trust his dentist a lot but sounds horrible. I have never had a tooth pulled and sounds tortuous even though I know baby teeth have no root.  he had a fused tooth that was supposed to have 2 teeth come in its place on bottom and never did so one tooth has never erupted.  now they want to pull his 2 eye teeth and one next to it to make room.  won't that mean the others won't have room later then?  he will have spaces there for years maybe because he is slow at losing teeth. 

they will give him sedation and gas but still - ugh  I thought about not going but then I want to be there for him because I know how men are.  haha  not as empathetic.  I've been putting this off for a few months.  need to get it over with or not have it done. if I don't though dentist says that one tooth will come in behind other teeth which I don't want happening of course.  ugh

anyone have any experience with this?

I am assuming that all the teeth to be pulled are baby teeth? if so don't worry he will be ok, the pain
should be minimal for the extractions, if there is any pain it will be with the fillings. Peace

Believe me HazelN you want this to happen! Its going to save him a great deal of pain and money and Orthodontist visits later.

My now 15 year old daughter was 2.5 months premature and had like problems with tooth eruption and crowding and when they suggested pulling baby teeth when she was barely 5 I thought they had lost their minds! She hadn't even had a chance yet to lose them naturally right?

I didnt let them do it and have kicked my own rearend a dozen times! She didn't have room, teeth overlapped in two areas and came in behind the others and never pushed the baby teeth out! Now as a 11 year old she was a mess. She ended up having 2 oral surgeries and lost 1 permanent tooth and had braces 3 years!

Better now then the alternative later, he will do fine!

Hazel,

Your son will be alright and so will you.  The sedation and gas will keep him from even remembering what happened.  My youngest son had to have teeth pulled at about the same age as his mouth was not big enough for his teeth and he began having crowding when the baby teeth fell out and permanent teeth started coming in.

The only thing he remembers all this years later is "that dentist had the biggest hands". :-)

thanks guys. I also don't want his whole mouth numb cause the fillings are on both sides of upper. but dentist said he won't need to use much numbing for those. he cries when his mouth is numb.

I just had a friend tell me that both of her kids had it done when they were little and said it hurt. ugh not good to hear before.

I was wondering about that! I know, I saw your title: "7 year old."

I've never had experience with extraction of baby teeth for this reason. Sounds like Vickie and Kitt have some really good advise!

From the sounds of it, I'm with Vickie on this one. Better now than later. Wishing my own Mom had things corrected for me early on. Lack of intervention early on resulted in several problems that were on my plate that didn't need to be.

He'll be fine, and happier in the end!
