What to do if your doctor won't listen.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  I am sorry to read you are having issues with your Dr.  Are you on an antidepressant?  Most Drs. use antidepressants for both anxiety and depression.  There are not a lot that will order benzos for long term use.

What else have you tried for your anxiety issues?

I know anxiety can make life miserable but I promise with therapy and hard work you can learn to control your anxiety as well as the depression.

Thank you so much for your responses. Currently I am taking Celexa and Lamictal. The Celexa has led to a slight lessoning of my depression in that I have more "good days" then I had before taking it. I think the Lamictal is supposed to help with my anxiety, but it's like it does nothing for me. One of the doctors I see has me trying some CBT through exposure therapy and relaxation training. He gave me a cd that is supposed to help me relax, and I try to use it to help me calm down. However, all that seems to happen is I get more tense and agitated because my brain just won't stop. I think the cause of this is that I hear voices, and the more I try to relax, the louder they get. I also tend to see things that are not there. I have been diagnosed with Schizo affective disorder, as well as Agoraphobia. I just don't know what to do, and I don't know what happened to cause it to become as bad as it now is. When I was younger, I could deal with it. I worked in the hospitality industry so I was always around new people, and I was able to deal with it though I had periods where I just wanted to run away. Now I can't even handle being in a room of people I know. I miss out on so much because of my paranoia and delusions. My wife says she understands what is happening and tries to help me in anyway she can, but I don't think she REALLY understands. I don't know how someone who hasn't experienced the fear, confusion, and sense of loneliness that comes from feeling like you are separated from everything around you because you panic due to the slightest thing that is different or out of the ordinary. It is really hard for me to talk about this even when typing it out because I know I shouldn't feel this way, and so I am ashamed of it and tend to keep it all to myself.
