Zoloft/Muscle Twitching?

Hi All...

Just curious if anyone has ever experienced the side effect of muscle twitching while taking Zoloft. It started for me about 6 weeks after starting the medication (50 mg daily) and has persisted since (been about 3 months).

I get mixed opinions on this. I've read a few things saying this can happen, my prescribing doctor told me it could be a side effect of the med, and then another doctor (general internist) said she didn't think it was from that. A pharmacist also said it could be.

So I thought it would be helpful to get input from people who have actually taken it and maybe experienced the same thing?

I was only on it 3 days , and yes it can , .... Zoloft is not for me

Hi dmarie,

I get muscle twitching just from stress, (I am not on an Rx) so this could be a combination of your meds...and just an anxiety symptom.

It is good that you have checked in with your doctor, although I believe this is nothing to worry about.:)

Off hand, from perusing the internet, it does indeed seem like Muscle Twitches can be caused by Zoloft (though not listed as a frequent side effect). You didn't mention the extent of the twitching, constant, frequent, or occasional. How about the areas involved, global (all over your body) or you leg, or face, or arm, etc.

I was racked by muscle twitches once, maybe for a few months, all over my body, all day long, very aggressive, and I wasn't on medication then. They just tapered out and went away, to a lesser degree they still crop up once in a while. But I was seeing a neurologist at the time, he wasn't concerned about mine.

I agree with Scaredy Cat, mention it to your prescribing or family doctor if the muscle twitching is frequent and wide spread.
