Appt tomorrow with NP

Hi!
I feel for ones like yourself that have health anxiety! Thankfully, that's not one of my hang-ups, but I have enough of my own! My thing is that I constantly think about my Mom's health b/c she does have COPD and I don't know what I'd do w/o her....I try not to dwell on it, but it's getting harder and harder, the older I get (and the older she gets). So I certainly feel for you and can empathize! But since you say your doctor usually calms you down by joking with you, perhaps you won't mind me sharing this with you. I thought of it when I read that you were having problems with your sinuses and of course, I thought of the nose, which led my mind to a joke my Mom played on my Dad years ago. Dad was always a bit vain. His hair and clothes had to be "just right" and he had no doubts that he was attractive. So I guess my Mom felt like she needed to have a little fun with him...after all, he didn't mind if he got a laugh off of YOU! ;)
So one day she looks at him steadily and says in a thoughtful, yet a bit concerned voice, "J., I don't know, but I think your nose is getting bigger....!" She was good, I tell you! She didn't overplay it or underplay. Not too serious and dramatic, but not too light. Just right! :) So Dad goes into the bathroom and starts looking at his face in the mirror and he's turning his head this way and that way. He is staring intently at his nose. He looks around at my Mom, who is standing there, concern written upon her face, and he says, "You know, I think you're right! My nose IS getting BIGGER!!!" It took all my Mom could do to not bust out laughing! LOL! Of course, she didn't leave him worrying too long. She's not that devious! But it sure was funny! he got her and me one time too. We were fixing to go out the front door and he says, very serious-like, "I WOULDN'T GO OUT THERE IF I WERE YOU!!!!" Mom and I stopped dead in our tracks! We looked back at him for an explanation, of course, not knowing what in the world was wrong! As calmly as you please, he looks up from his recliner and says, "There's a lot of squirrels out there and you KNOW how they love NUTS!" Our mouths fell open b/c he had gotten us but good! We had to laugh! Why we hadn't suspected something, we'll never know! :)) Ever since then, I've never looked at a squirrel in the same way! Hahaha!!
Well, Special, I hope I've made you smile at least! I assure you that you will be just fine! This time of year is famous for making our sinuses act up! And besides, it could just be that your nose is growing! ;)

Hi SO.,

I hope that you really like the NP that you see tomorrow. Nurses are usually good at putting a nervous patient at ease....just be honest and let her know if you are feeling unsettled.

I am sure that you are going to go home very relieved, and with a plan in place to feel better all around.

We did have some great laughs! My Dad and Mom both had/have great senses of humor and thankfully I got that too! A sense of humor helps when nothing else does!

Hi. The NP said its sinus congestion and fluid in my ears. She said to double up on the sudafed even though it can cause anxiety. She said to take Xanax for the anxiety. Or better yet I should take Valium as it may help the vertigo. I'm at the health club now and had to get off of the elliptical because I got dizzy and started to feel shaky. I'm on the bike now. My sinuses hurt and I feel lightheaded. It's probably anxiety. I have myself worked up. I went to the chiropractor this evening and she didn't think the NP was right about the fluid. She said something about the crystals in my ears. Huh??? That just got me googling again! I just need to go home and do what the NP said and try to calm down. If I'm not going to follow the advice of the medical professional then there's no point in going, right? She seemed sure if herself. She also said to stop taking Zyrtec as it was canceling out the Sudafed. I swear anxiety is going to kill me before anything else!!!! Thanks for letting me vent. It actually helps to get my concerns out to people who understand. My family and friends are probably sick of my whining. I'm going to post on the allergy site about what the NP said about fluid in the ears to see what experiences they have had. But all in all the anxiety pages are the best I've ever come across. I've never met more caring and compassionate people! Thank you so much for being here!

Hi. I guess I work out to try and convince myself I'm fine. And the distraction is helpful. And yes I'm sometimes very excessive/obsessive when it comes to working out. I happy to hear that someone knows about the crystal thing. I thought she was going to put them in my ears and do some kind of chanting of something!! Googling it didn't help. It just sounded like more things to get me worked up! But I'm trying to be positive and most especially take your advice and follow traditional and holistic treatments. I'm undergoing. A 4 week detox cleanse that I'm hoping will help. This week is the prep which is ok. I'm not too certain about the cleanse part. You still get to eat as it's not one of those cleanses where you just drink juices all day. So we will see.
