I called my doctor's office to renew my prescription for cholesterol meds.  I always get 90 days with 3 refills.  I refilled most of my pills the same way about a month ago but forgot to renew this one. All the scripts for my meds were written for 90 days with 3 refills.  When I called to refill the cholesterol med she said she could only refill it for 6 months and that I now had to come back twice a year.  My doctor didn't say anything about that at my last visit last week when we discussed my anxiety, xanax and lightheadedness.  Now, of course, I'm going into health anxiety mode figuring he thinks I probably do have something wrong with me (like a brain tumor, etc.) and that's why he wants to see me in 6 months.  All he said was if things weren't improved in 3 months or so and that I needed more xanax, he would switch me to Ativan.  Why am I all of a sudden overthinking this?  Nice to know I have something else to obsess over!  It was difficult enough for me to make an annual appointment with the doctor due to my health anxiety.  Now I have to go twice a year?  Yikes!

No. You never make things worse. It's possible he put the notation in my file due to my anxiety issues and the prescription for the Xanax. I need to learn to deal with things as they happen and not worry about what's in the future.

I'm going to ^^echo^^ our friend Larry's thoughts....(and I'll do it with a wry smile).

I've noticed a lot of changes this year as well that were never issues before. I honestly wouldn't take it personally, or think of this as a sign of some impending doom. (If that were the case, they'd be on the phone with you telling you to come in immediately, not twice a year!)

Quite sincerely,...nothing in what you've written is causing any alarm bells to ring. I would chalk this up more to closely monitoring patients, than something dreadful they're going to wait 6 months to reveal.

Makes sense. And the left side of my brain knows that. That's the logic side. The right side however needs a lot of work. The emotional side of my brain keeps vetoing the logical side. Can't they just play nice ? Logically there is no reason for me to think the way I do. Logically I know if he was concerned about my lightheadedness I'd be back in 3 months not 6. Logically I know that brain tumors are rare and not always fatal. Logically I should be able to handle this. However the other side of my brain isn't buying it. It's just not fair. But that's life!

True, true,....life isn't fair.... Life is the way it is. (Kitt quoted that on another thread, and I turn to that a lot).

As for each side of our brain playing nicely together, well that depends. Women have a biological/anatomical advantage in that our sides actually do have a connection that men's do not. So I try to tap into that as a secret alley way to access! :)

Generally, I think it's more like sibling rivalry. That, and most of us tend to have one side more dominant than the other. The trick is trying to encourage, and thus train, both sides to communicate (we'll work on the "nice" part later!)

It takes practice, and small steps.

BTW: Really, if there was something flagging, your doc wouldn't even be putting it off 3 months. They'd be getting you in now.

You are doing fine, you really are. Just keep up the dialogue between the two sides....eventually the right side will see the left side has something useful to contribute. Ahh, yes, there's that word again: Patience. :)
