Has anyone else tried Wellbutrin to try and get rid of the weight that an ssri has packed on them?
It took me about
two years to realize why I was slowly gaining weight, and nothing I was doing would take it off. I just thought that maybe in your late twenties your metabolism just slows WAY down. I was so mad when I finally figured out it was the zoloft I was taking, because I specifically asked my doc if it would make me gain weight and she said "no, in fact most people lose weight on it."
Now that I've finally targeted my suspect, I have decided to ween myself off of it, and I've started taking wellbutrin sr 150mg to help my depression/anxiety without the added weight gain. The only problem is when I stopped taking my 50mg zoloft last week, the withdrawl symptoms were HORRENDOUS! I get these weird "brain zaps" that feel too strange to describe, I'm VERY dizzy, I get TERRIBLE anxiety, and extremely agitated at absolutely everything. I started feeling light headed at a video store the other day, and it threw me into a full blown panic attack! I was scared to death because I had my infant twins with me, and I didn't even feel like I could safely drive us home! TERRIBLE!
I went and got a script
today for 25mg zoloft so that maybe I can just slowly keep decreasing my dosage and the withdrawals won't be so bad. ???
I.M.O. ZOLOFT IS AWFUL for weight gain, and it's HORRENDOUS to get off of as well. If you're wanting to try out an anti depressant, and are concerned about
weight gain, do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY FROM SSRIs. I wish I had known this a long time ago. This has been EXTREMELY frustrating/devastating for me because I have never had a problem with weight before this. I've always been physically fit and healthy.
Anyway....if you've tried Wellbutrin to get rid of the unwanted weight of an SSRI, has it worked well for you? What was your dosage, and how long did it take to start helping?
Any info is helpful. Thank you!
