sick over mistakes at work

i made 2 mistakes yesterday at work and i'm afraid about telling my boss about them today. he does not have a big tolerance about mistakes.

so i'm playing scenarios over and over in my mind: should i tell him, or hope that he doesn't find them? what will he do when I tell him? Get angry? write me an official email chiding me for making too many mistakes, and talk about termination?

i wish i could stop obsessing and just trust everything will be all right.

do you mind telling me on what kinda mistake did you do at work ?

scenarios in your brain are actually worse than what will happen in real life.

If you feel your boss should know about the mistakes then honesty is the right way to go.

If the mistakes were minor and you were able to correct them - then don't let making the mistakes ruin your day.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I was able to tell my boss about my mistakes without him freaking out. He acted like the mistakes were relatively minor (which they were). He doesn't always react this way. I should mention he is a few decades younger than me.

I get tired sometimes of asking questions about things - there seems to be too much to learn. and I have a bad habit, which I guess HP is trying to help me get over - of trying to do things on my own without asking questions.

your boss seems like my brother for some reason.

he doesn't tolerate but if you're older than him, he wouldn't really mind at times when the mistakes are minor as long as you don't do it again. i'm glad you confessed to your boss.

my dad wouldn't be happy if he knows that one of his worker is keeping a secret on a mistake either. he said it's always better to confess than keep it all in.

I was taught,-- and I firmly believe,-- "if you mess up, fess up!"

The burden of trying to keep a secret or hide something is traumatic.

Just getting it up and out is easier, and safer, all the way around.

If it's something small that you've had a chance to rectify and there's no fall out,....then I wouldn't disrupt the waters. But in general, if this is not going to go unnoticed, it's going to reflect a lot better on you that you came clean when you had the chance.
