I get similar sensations, and I've found,-- for me, at least,-- things that make it worse would be when I eat dairy products (they tend to contribute to the formation of mucous in the body)....and dehydration (and it doesn't have to be 'severe,' it just has to be!)
Drinking plenty of fluids helps to thin that mucous out, avoiding foods that are triggers,...some meds, or even anxiety itself, can cause dry mouth/throat and exacerbate this feeling,...so as sage S.C. mentioned, lozenges to keep the throat lubricated, can be very helpful!
Also, do you notice it feeling worse when you lay down? Or does it feel the same whether you're sitting up or laying down?
Finally, exercise helps....the more you get your body moving, the more you're doing some of that deep breathing that comes with exercise,...it gets everything moving in the body! That, too!
