Counselling: what to expect?

OK gang,

I've been suffering the gamut of problems over the last few months, and collectively, the last 1.5 years or so. Anxiety, shortness of breath, fatigue, weird tight gassy/jelly chest feelings (not pain though). Plus some suspected acid reflux things going on.

Last year I did several kinds of tests (heart stress test, 24 pH of esophagus, pulmonary function test). All came back OK.

Tomorrow begins a new phase of treatment. For the first time, I'm going to a counsellor through my work's Employment Assistance Programme. I've never done therapy in terms of talking it out with a psychologist before.

What can I expect? What questions should I have for the psychologist? What *answers* should I prepare for him? Does it help?

Any guidance? I've done the meds thing and it hasn't helped permanently; now trying something new! I am a complete counselling newbie here.

I am very happy for you and the start of your new phase of treatment.

I had much success with therapy!

That looks like a great thread. Thank you for pointing it out! I skimmed through it and it looks like it has some good questions. I'll be sure to give it a good read-through tonight, to prepare for my session tomorrow. I'll post first impressions/thoughts about it tomorrow or Thursday.
