Has anyone taken Zoloft/Setraline & Co-Codamol 30/500 together and is it okay???

Hi Everyone,

I am on day 10 of taking Zoloft 100mg and I am already taking Co-Codamol 30/500 for back pain but I am a little worried that the codeine may affect how the Zoloft works?

I have done a bit of research online and also done a check on the two medicines on one of those medication interaction sites and it just says that the Zoloft can increase the effects of the Co-Codamol but not the other way around.

I have had a really cloudy head due to anxiety and depression and I think the Zoloft are just starting to work so I dont want to do anything to stop them working.

Were these two Rx's from the same prescribing doctor?

If so...he/she would have checked out any interactions and should have counseled you about any possible issues.

(if not, then I would encourage you to talk to your doctor a.s.a.p regarding this.)

However, it doesn't hurt to double check...so I understand your concern.

Also, you can always call your pharmacist, who is a knowledgable source about these type of questions.

Hey SC how are you?

Yes the doctor prescribed them both but I am not sure he checked if they are compatible. I have been taking them both and from what I can work out, the Zoloft increases the effect of the Codeine and makes you feel more drowsy but I dont think there is any effect the other way around.

I am on day 10 or 11 of taking the Zoloft and it has been upped to 150mg but I can feel some stability reaching my mind now and I am not so anxious so this is just the start of them working and I cannot wait for the full affects :)

I take antidepressant and have been on meds for a very long time.  My fog is caused by chemotherapy. For years, cancer survivors have worried about , joked about , and been frustrated by the mental cloudiness they sometimes notice before, during, and after cancer treatment. Even though its exact cause isn’t always known, this mental fog is commonly called chemo brain. I truly had never heard of it until I was dx with cancer and started on chemo. I have read many people experience "brain fog" from taking SSRI/SNRIs.

I am really glad to hear that you are starting to feel good now that you are reaching the theraputic dose of your Rx!! That is great.

I think you are wise to want to avoid 'rocking the boat' so to speak...so good job on getting the answers that you need in regards to your two Rx's.

Hi Sc,

I was feeling better but the latter part of today I have felt really down again and this has made me feel spaced out again. I think the anxiety & depression go hand in hand when it comes to causing the horrible spaced out feelings.

I have to remember that it is still only day 11 of new tablets so they still have a lot more work to do for sure and I will feel loads better when they do kick in.

Thanks for being there everyone, hardest thing is trying to convince myself I am not going crazy or have something worse than anxiety but I am fighting. :(

Sean, I take codeine for pelvic pain, 30mg a time. I take max of 4 a day and I haven't noticed any interaction. I take 50mg of Sertraline a day at 1pm.

Aw really? That gives me some comfort to know I helped you so thank you for letting me know :) I think perhaps the biggest problem for me is I have been off work for a month now and withdrawn quite a lot so my mind has got used to not thinking about anything other than what is wrong with me and am I going mad which is not a good habit. I think maybe once I get back to normal life, I wont have much time to think about things and my mind will adjust back to normal but right now I don't feel ready.

How are you? Is the Sertraline working for you? I cant help but feel that the Sertraline enhances the drowsyness you would normally get when taking codeine.

I'm not so bad thanks Sean, had a bit of a bad day today, feeling really overwhelmed by everything and my anxiety has been bad. Every twinge or ache that isn't normal starts off my panic.

I've been on Sertraline for a month and a half now. Some days I feel that it's starting to work, other days I'm not sure. It seems to be helping more with my depression. I haven't noticed feeling drowsy taking the codeine and Sertraline, although as you are only on day 10 it's possible it is making you feel more drowsy as your body adjusts to it. I used to take tramadol as well but you can't take that with Sertraline so it's just as well I don't need it any more. My mum was given codeine after her operation and she hated how it made her feel, her system just wouldn't get used to it and she had that drowsy not-quite-with-it feeling all the time. If it carries on making you drowsy with the Sertraline than it might be worth speaking to your doctor.

Hey Wdwfan,

Its mad how everyone is different with anxiety isnt it, like I dont really analyse aches and pains in my body but I do constantly check to see how my head is feeling as when it is spaced out, it makes me anxious but I think the tablets are slowly kicking in and hopefully I will become more and more stable everyday.

I start CBT next week but they are only half an hour sessions which is really short so I will have to pay extra attention lol

I hope CBT works for you. I will be having that soon. I had my telephone assessment 2 weeks ago and they said it was about a 6 month wait. Fingers crossed it will be less than that as I have days where I really can't cope. They said I need high intensity CBT on a one to one basis. We shall see. I hope the tablets are indeed starting to settle down.
