Lexapro w/ mirtazapine, questions.

Still fighting out my relapse into increased anxiety.

I started on Mirtazapine 15mg in late March, moved to 30mg after seeing my Psych in April. I feel like the only think it's doing is making me sleep longer, and perhaps causing dry mouth upon waking. I've been taking more Xanax through the day to curb the anxiety. So after a phone call to the nurse today the decision was to add Lexapro 10mg and drop the Mirtazapine to 15mg. I see him again the 23rd so we can talk about it more then, unless something changes.

I'm always leery of new meds, especially since AD's tend to make things worse, and I've never taken 2 together. I was originally on Zoloft a couple years ago, and I think I did fine with it.

So I guess I'm just curious what I could expect or what to look out for.

Good Morning, Remeron used to be saved as the big gun AD for people with depression when no other medication worked. I know my Psychiatrist would mention it to me from time to time. Now I see a lot of people on Remeron to help with insomnia.  Putting it together with Lexapro does not seem unreasonable however I am not a physician. I have been taking a cocktail of medications for my Anxiety/Depression for quite a few years now and for me the combination works well. No medications will take away all your anxieties as we frequently post here in the forum.  It usually take therapy, peer support, self-help programs, alternative treatments and medication if your Dr. feels medication is for you. My cocktail is: BUSPIRONE HCL (tablet) – BUSPAR 10 mg   Take 3 tablet by mouth 2 times daily. - anxiety TRAZODONE HCL (tablet) DESYREL 50 mg   Take 3 tablets at bedtime - for sleep VENLAFAXINE HCL (capsule, extended release 24hr) EFFEXOR XR 300 mg daily by mouth in AM  - this is my Antidepressant. I am at max dose. Each person is unique re how their bodies will respond to the many RX available and it may take work to find the right combo so I wish you the very best and hope your new combo works for you.
