Aw Shucks,I Love you all and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for being a part of this cancer journey I am on. I have spent 18 months on this journey and I expect to keep on winning this battle that I wrestle with daily.
I made it through the CT scan yesterday and I believe that is the 10-12th scan I have had since August of 2012.
As most of you know I was dx with Colon Cancer on 8/10/2012, had Colon resection on 8/16/2012 and was dx with Stage IIIC adenocarcinoma of the colon.
After placement of my power port in September of 2012 I was started on 12 rounds of chemotherapy. I completed my chemo in January of 2013 and my CEA tumor markers were within normal range and my CT Scan was clear.
That lasted until March of 2013 when I had my first post therapy CEA lab work and CT scan and there is was, Metastatic adenocarcinoma of the colon through out my lymph node system - not confined to the original location of the primary cancer. I spent much of 2013 in chemotherapy. On December 31 I had my last chemo as my Onocologist felt the chemo was not working.
I chose to take a break from chemo and have run out of break time now as my CEA lab value tumor marker has risen from 206.4 on 12/31/2013 to 571.5 on 5/14/2014. 0 to 5 mcg/L is the normal range for CEA lab values. Ct Scan result and visit to oncologist tomorrow. He has been kind and worked with me closely during this break time.
My CT scans and labs indicate the disease has spread (metastasized) to distant locations. Chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer has been proven to extend life and improve the quality of life. If managed well, the side effects of chemotherapy are typically far less than the side effects of uncontrolled cancer. Chemotherapy alone cannot cure metastatic colon cancer, but it can more than double life expectancy and allow for good quality of life during the time of treatment.
Did I mention I have anxiety but truly have been managing it well. Coming here and helping others is a huge part of my therapy.
Thank you for reading my daily responses as well as putting up with my quirky sense of humor from time to time.
Thank you for the prayers and for the support.
Love ya my friends and my peers,
Kitt
