Scared to take my meds

Hi,
This is the first time I post something and hoping that someone can give me some advice.
I've been having increased anxiety with my symptoms being mainly dizziness and nausea. It has become so unbearable that I decided to seek help. Have been seeing a psychologist and a psychiatrist. I have tried lexapro and cymbalta and they both made me so sick that I couldn't get out of bed, I only lasted a few days on each and I just couldn't take the side effects. He also gave me buspar 10mg 3x a day which has helped me a little bit but I've only been on that for 3 weeks.

Went back to dr today and he now wants me to try Zoloft, said he will start me on a low dose of only 25mg in the morning but I'm so scared to take it. I'm having major anxiety at just the thought of taking something new that can make me feel worse. He also wants to up my buspar to 15mg 3x a day.

I bake on the side and I have a big cake order for this week, I'm so scared that if I take the Zoloft I will be so sick in bed that I can't do my job but dr said I shouldn't wait and start taking it right away. What am I so scared of taking these meds?! He also gave me Xanax to take if I feel really bad but I'm scared of taking it too, it's horrible feeling this way.

You never can tell how you are going to react to a medication, I did wonderful on zoloft with no major problems until I reached a level my body could not tolerate.

I can totally relate to your fear of taking medication, I am the exact same way, especially if you had a medication that had an adverse reaction on your body.

My doctor put me on Paxil when I couldn't be increased anymore on Zoloft and I ended up in the ER because I had an adverse reaction to Paxil, so in other words it's hard to say how our body will react, but your doctor knowing the meds he has put you on should be aware of the ingredients in them and if they have any that the other med you could not tolerate had in it.(I hope that made sense)

I too know, with me, that I can get panicky just taking a new medication, my doctor gives me Xanax which helps a lot with my anxiety, busbar did nothing for me at all, where as xanax I can take when I feel a panic attack coming on and it usually is better with in 20 minutes or so. Not every doctor will prescribe xanax, and a lot of doctors seem to be pushing busbar, so if it works for you that is wonderful.

I have found Zoloft to be very mild in that low of a dose. If you feel side effects, hopefully they would be minor but you can't really say until you try. I've been on and off Zoloft since I was 8. I ween myself off a few years and then the anxiety comes back full force and I need it again but I'm not dependent on it because I can go a few years without it.

Anyway, the worst I've ever felt on it is some nausea that went away after awhile and I took motion sickness pills which helped and I get brain fog and dizziness but nothing too bad. Again, it's such a low dose, pay attention to your body and how it reacts. You might find that you love it. I would write down how it makes you feel so you can tell your doctor next time you see him/her. That's what I do.

I was terrified to take Clonazepam but it was great. I just tried the lowest dose. But that medication is for major anxiety.

Hi Anxious24 and welcome.

I am sorry that you are currently dealing with these worries. It is ironic, that we fear the meds that will most likely bring us relief...but true that the initial s/e's can make for a rough start.

I would go ahead and hold off until your big work project is done. This will keep you within your comfort zone, and a few days delay in starting your Rx is not going to be a big deal in the long run.

Thank you all for the kind words, I really need it. You have no idea how much it has helped to know that I am not alone.

S.C. I met with my therapist today and she also agreed that I should wait until I finish my project and try the Zoloft on the weekend. I will keep you posted. Thanks again!
