New to this site/ intro

Welcome to HW, I can say from experience that you are amongst many who have the same experiences you do, and are always willing to help you out.

Health Anxiety is something I deal with too. After being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2011 I developed terrible anxiety and panic attacks. My obsession is with my heart since a lot of my Crohn's pain can end up in that area. My heart has been checked many times since and it's always doing just fine. I've had long periods where I'll be doing great, little to no anxiety and then something happens, like getting a normal cold and off I go. In fact I just had a pretty bad attack yesterday.

What if's are something I also have a problem with. My wife said it best one day. "You don't worry about getting hit by a bus, so why worry about this." She's right.

Don't feel sad and pathetic, I know first hand it doesn't help me. :)

Not sad or pathetic at all. In fact, if you type in "health anxiety" in the search bar, you might just be surprised at how much company you have!

Thanks for replying. Over the years I have always worked through my fears. But, lately I did seek help. My gp put me on Buspar. And I have been seeing a psychologist. I'm not sure he's helping tho, he keeps saying the cancer word and it's really aggravating me. I don't feel a connection/ feeling like I want to tell him anything. Some people are easier to talk to than others and I get tired of people telling "quit thinking about it!" Like its that easy!!! My family is supportive but, kinda tired of the same thing. I feel alone a lot using the internet to help me feel better. I live in constant fear that I'm going to die and it just stinks!! I panic if someone talks about the future. (Ie vacations, etc) I have loss of appetite and avoidance. Dr says I have GAD.

Yes, I have been thinking of finding a new doctor to talk to. He's very nice but, not a fit for me. Hopefully the next one won't be the same. It feels like a relief finding this website. Not that I enjoy reading other peoples misery per say but I'm not alone. I've never met another person like me. At least, I perceive everyone to be living a normal life, unlike the panic driven one I live.

Ripley, you are so not alone. I started here last year in the worst spot of my life. I had some condition going on, and the doctors couldn't figure it out. My anxiety hit the roof. I have always had anxiety/panic disorder since around 2005. It went away and then came back with a vengence a few years ago. I swore I had everything under the sun. My doctor sent me to the neurologist, cardiologist, and I had went to the E.R. about 5 times in a matter of a few months..I swore every pain I felt, was the worst..It had to be something serious. Wasn't until I found this forum, and also came across other stuff about anxiety and realized that anxiety sure can cause physical symptoms. I finally got put on xanax as needed, and started doing some coping skills, and thankfully things have started to calm down alot. You will get all kinds of advice and support here, especially from the veteran members. They have been where you are now, and some of them are facing even more trials. Good luck to you, and continue to post here. People here are truly awesome, and they have helped me alot.

I am pretty sure all of my cats are!!

We have 3...none by choice!!!  (but yes, I do love cats)

One was a charity case...my friend's cat had suprise kittens, and she begged me to take one.

The other two found us, and while one is tame and the biggest love bug in the world...the other is still a little bit on the wild side, and stays outdoors.

I will definitely have to look that book up...sounds hilarious!! (no offense taken...on the contrary...thanks for mentioning it!!)
