Hi TG and a warm welcome.
I too am sorry to hear about
your brother, friend's mom, as well as your own mom! Such loss and sadness.:( These things can naturally become triggers for our own issues.
The bright ray of hope here is that you are doing all of the right things to get to a better place of healhing for yourself! Getting help from your doctor, seeking therapy, and reaching out to the group here for support are all great steps.
If you feel that your Tofranil is causing an increase in your symptoms...and you have given it the required amount of start up time to become theraputic...then I would suggest talking with your doctor. There are many alternatives that you could try for your anxiety.
TCA's are somewhat of a less popular choice as compared to SSRI's or SNRI's...do you know why your doctor specifically choose this Rx for you?
Until you can get in to discuss your options...we have a great Resource section here to get you started on some really good self-help coping skills. There are book recommendations and sites specifically geared toward health anxiety, if that is what you would like to focus on!

Since therapy does take time for the advantages to be felt...some of the material here in this link could help you as you go through the process of CBT.:) (I found a combination of CBT and self-help to be really advantageous!
Keep posting here with us as well. We understand and are here to listen anytime.:)
