Beta blocker questions

I am just looking for thoughts here. I know my Doc had talked to me a little about beta blockers and I had put that thought off because my mother said she had taken them and developed a heart blockage.

I wonder if anyone knows if it would make me more likely to react with the same blockage issue or if relative has anything to do with it.

Also do the beta blockers seem to help people with anxiety, shaking, or any symptoms?

Any info is appreciated. I never take meds so I know very little.

Beta blockers tend to be well-tolerated by most individuals. They're often used for people who have stage fright or may have anxiety such as with public speaking. It can be used both short- and long-term.

As for how you will react based on how your mother reacted, it's best to ask your doctor that question because as we often say here, everybody does react differently. There are things my Father could take that I could not tolerate,...so it doesn't always seem to follow suit.

Thank you. It has been a med that sounded like it might be worth a try but my mom has me terrified of it now so I'm not sure what to do. Oh brother I just took an ibuprophen and I had a couple minutes I felt like I couldn't swallow because I am so afraid of taking things.

Reason I thought to ask people who have taken the meds is Dr.s don't seem to pay enough attention to side effect details at least in my experience. I agree they would be the one to ask or the pharmacist which I definitely would do if I was going to take a med. The Dr's get so irritated with me not taking meds and it makes me nervous.

This is definitely ohe to talk to your doctor about. Letting him or her know of your mother's history.

While I agree that your experience could (and most likely would) be different, your doctor should know this information, and then be able to make the best plan for either an alternative, or for reassuring you about proceeding with this Rx if it's safe for you.:)

I take a beta blocker and have no adverse reactions. I have MVP and it helps with that and my anxiety. I don't believe there's a high incidence of intolerance. Its worth talking to your doctor in order to make an informed decision.
