I just went to check GOOGLE News like I do throughout the day and there was the headline! It is sooo sad!!! It just goes to show that we never really know..... shakehead shakehead cry cry

This just goes to show that even though a person seems happy on the outside we don't know what they are dealing with on the inside. Someone that made many people laugh and smile was unable to make himself happy...very sad.. I always remember mork and mindy

Yeah, I agree. One never knows what's going on inside a person's heart and mind even though they look happy on the outside.
He was a good actor :/

So very sad. Maybe his passing will bring more attention to mental illness and show the world that this needs more attention and research. We are not crazy, we are every day people who suffer from a disease. We should not be embarrassed or ashamed. This is who we are and maybe this tragedy will force those who suffer to seek help. I pray that he has found his peace, but mad that he took his life. Suicide is not the answer. It is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. There is no turning back. Please remember that folks.

I never thought he was happy on the outside. He was an actor. Of course actors rarely show their true self in front of the camera. They have to hide their insecurities in public and act like everything is going well. It's a hard life.

You know, I've always had a keen sense of humor. Even when I was feeling bad, I'd want to make others laugh. yes, I know all too well that just because a person comes across one way does not mean that is how he or she really feels on the inside. There have been times when I deserved an academy award for my performances.
I am sorry that he felt this was his only recourse. It wasn't, but for a moment in time, he thought it was and there was no one that knew this that could convince him otherwise. I try not to be angry at ones that do this...I just feel sad for them and so very sad and sorry for their families and friends that are left behind to sort out the pieces.

Yes, I think we can all relate! On the outside, I am often told I look well-groomed, happy, and outgoing (I try to be!) but no one knows what I've been going thru the past decade or so. People judge us based on what they see on the surface...sadly, that's the reality.

Robin Williams thought process was so fast writers had to leave pages of script blank because most of his work came from a racing creative thought process no one could control and didn't want to stop. I believe he was very bipolar. When you are that high you can't avoid severe crashes into depression. He used alcohol to try to slow his thoughts. His hero was Jonathan Winters who yearly checked into a facility for help. There have been so much creativity that suffered like that. I remember "Amedeus", the story of Mozart who was obsessed with a brain that was producing compositions so fast it killed him at 33. He produced more compositions than any other composer. Robin created so much variety, so vast that his work will be studied forever also.

It's hard to believe this. I've been such a fan of RW for decades. He does a great sketch on golf in Scotland, on, uhm, how it was probably invented. Excellent.

In one of his sketches he comments on how even after GWH, academy awards,...he'd be given cursory appreciation and then commended and say, "Nice going Mork!"

My concern is how much focus is going to be placed on his previous substance issues vs. mental health issues. There's a huge divide. It's sad that it takes a celebrity to cause public awareness, (as opposed to basic good humanity)....

I hope this is treated with respect.

I couldn't agree more Merrida. If the media is going to continue to speak about this issue, I hope they discuss his struggle with depression and don't tie it directly to his issues with addiction. I hope that all if the "regular people" out there stop grieving for RW on Facebook and stop for a moment to look at the people in their real lives and to be there for them.

If Robin Williams (and other talented artists) have a brain that works like a super processor that enable them to think faster than anyone else... And I have a brain that works the same way except it has a lot of questions, doubts, thoughts than many others but why am I not talented?

I too am in total shock that he is gone...even more so by how he did it. I loved him as an actor and the funniest person ever on both the big screen and TV since I grew up watching Mork & Mindy. The news came on the radio Monday at work and not since the news that Princess Diana died have I shed tears over a celebrity. He was a one-of-a-kind, sweet, compassionate man that loved to make people laugh, could do improv and be funny like no other ever has or ever will. His sudden death has certainly shocked millions in a way that few others ever had as no words can describe the man he was. 

Like all of us, I really hope that the reason behind his death, the depression and addiction, sheds new light on this disease that affects millions, often in the dark, while they put on happy faces day in and day out. Suicide isn't the answer, but in the minds of its victims, seems like the only way out. Those left behind to sort the whys, what ifs, anger, hurt, guilt, etc., can't completely understand if they've never dealt with it, although there's nothing they want more than to be able to understand and help. I only hope his family is able to find peace in the outpouring of love and support from each other, friends, and fans around the world who loved him so much as both and actor and person. RIP Robin. You will never know how much you are loved and missed.

I may be incorrect, so again, I'm just stating what I recall reading, and even what I recall him discussing publically.

My personal concern is that people will make an erroneous correlation or assumption and jump on an 'addiction bandwagon.'

From what we understand, this is related to depression, and it is this avenue I'm praying is explored and onto which light is spread.

Agreed! It may be the positive thing that comes out of a tragedy that hits so many people since he was so well known. People are talking about it now...it is a serious issue and a silent killer. Depression/multi-personalites, anxiety etc... It made me sob because I felt like I related. He inspired me (along with other great comedic actors) to do voices for people and be a class clown to make everyone smile. But that was never who I really was and I was laughing on the outside and crying on the inside. I did it to cover up internal warfare and mask pain. I wonder now if he was doing that very same thing. I am now looking into things more and treatments, therapies, groups... It hit me. Even in death..I think he will help save lives.

I was voted class wit in high school and college and have always been the "funny one" to my close friends. However, I have suffered with healt anxiety and depression all my life and no one knew it until I disclosed it to my 8 closest girlfriends a year ago (more like sisters that I've known since high school) and they were SHOCKED! No one knows what goes on in another person's brain.
