NEW HEAR - WORRIED SICK

I am new to this forum. I suffer from anxiety and depression and am on meds (Xanax and Wellbutrin). I had a bomb dropped on me this evening and I don't know where else to turn. My niece is questioning her gender. She is going to be 17. What do I do? Where can I turn? Who can I talk to? She is a very private person and does not want to talk about it with me. Her parents are aware of her thoughts. I just do not know how to handle the thought of my niece maybe turning into my nephew instead. I don't want that to happen at all. I would miss my niece. Any advice would be appreciated. I know this is a tough subject.

I'd agree. Give her freedom. The fact that she came to you shows a degree of trust. That can get tarnished if you push her too hard.

Remember, this is not unheard of, and it is, after all, her body and her mind. This is something she has to work out for herself.

As Larry mentioned, the best thing we can provide is love, love, love,...regardless. She knows her self better than anyone.
