The best thing to do is to ask your doctor about this.
It may not be one or the other med but perhaps the combination?
There's a website called www.drugs.com where you can type in what meds you're on and they will list possible interactions and s/e's.
I take ambien as well, and in the beginning, yes it can cause some funky dreams. I still get funky dreams (but I'm learning only now that it's related to other stuff, not my meds)....but there are always s/e's.
Remember, too, that they must, by law, list every single possible s/e no matter how remote. Even if 1 person out of 10,000 had a sore throat (which could have been from the flu, not even the med),....it gets listed!
When it comes to taking or d/c'ing your med, always, always ask your doc and never, ever do it on your own.
That would probably be Rule #1....pretty much!
