can going back on meds cause panic?

HELP! I just went back onto my meds starting last night and once this morning 1/2 zoloft .25 and 1/3 buspar (doc says they are baby portions) I woke up feeling good for a change, but now I am sitting here at work fighting off a panic attack - what gives? Can the meds be causing this?

Any Anti-depressant can make you more panicky at first, as far as the zoloft that is such a small dose, but all of our bodies respond differently to anxiety and medications.

Personally I have never had any benefits from taking busbar, and one doctor told me that can take a while to kick in and help the panic attacks(in other words it's not fast acting like maybe xanax or ativan)

With me, I can just get panicky starting up a medication, and mine can be just mental anxiety with "what if".

Maybe you should call your doctor or his nurse and let them know what you are experiencing, sometimes hearing that what you are going through can be normal from a health provider is comforting.

Thanks Brenda! - I sure appreciate this site - I knew I could count on someone to write back to ease my mind. I did call the doc and they said that it wouldn't cause any issues because it takes a while to get into your system. I finally broke down and took 1/4 of a klonopin. I HATE PANIC!!! It's just so hard to deal with when you are in a public area with people looking on. I've gotten pretty good at it, but I know that when it is at it's peak I must look like a rat trying to get out of a maze...or at least that's what I feel like.

I went off of these meds 8 months ago - and have just decided that I needed to have something so the doc told me to go back on these. I pray that they do the job cause it's just too much having to deal with anxiety on a daily basis! The buspar alone never did much but the combination is what did the trick before. I think that I was just on them for too long (5 years) so I needed to take a break and prove to myself that I was capable of going off - which I did slowly. This life just has too many stressors right now.

Believe me I totally understand what you are saying, public places are my worst nightmare. I don't like people looking at me, which is kind of hard when you have to hand them money or something.

I especially feel awkward when there is nothing to look at and people are around you, so at that point the garbage can can become a real eye catcher for me, the design and contents wink

That has been one of my main issues of late, I need to walk for my health, but what if someone looks at me? what if I trip, what if a dog tries to attack me, what if I get ran over on the sidewalk by an out of control car..LOL, just weird things.

It is a battle and just know you are not alone!

Oh yes, I always get more anxiety/panic attack during start up. It will get better in time.

I am sorry that you are experiencing s/e's as a result to going back on your Rx's.:(...but am glad that you are getting the help that you need.

I do hope that this is short lived and mild...and that you are on your way to feeling better very soon.

Remember to rely on those coping skills for now!
