I had a mammogram on 8/29. Yesterday I got a letter from the radiologist saying that I need to have another mammogram on my right breast and possibly a sonogram for further evaluation.
Needless to say (but I AM saying it!), this has me on edge! I think the Prozac is keeping me from going into full-fledged panic mode! I am so grateful for it!!!

I know you want to worry and will. Every year I have a mammogram and an ultrasound. Both my mother and grandmother had breast cancer and survived from it. Doctors are super careful. Breast cancer is something that can be taken care of. They will look again if anything looks slightly abnormal. The more you have the extra tests the less nervous you will be.

I'm sorry to hear you are having to go through this. I'm glad the Prozac is still doing it's job :)
Stay calm and know that the tests are the best thing that's happening because without the tests it could be a lot worse because then you would have no idea and be even more worried.
Keep trying to relax and stay grateful!

I also forgot to mention if they found something they thought was serious, you ouldn't wait for a second mammogram. They would do it right away.

Same thing happen to me and I've had 20 mammograms starting at age 40. I made an appointment the next day because of my anxiety and believe it or not, the second one was fine.. I was so relieved but did not understand what was going on..She said most likely it was an oil cyst that moves around which is common but we have to be extra cautious and had you come back so you can leave with a smile now.. I did too.. I stayed till the radiologist confirmed I was ok.. I wasn't going home with what if's.. phew!

Thank you ALL so very much for your encouraging words!!!
As you all understand so very well yourselves, anyone with anxiety has is even worse when they have something like this happen!
The thing is, it causes me to not only worry about the "what if?!?!" but about ALL the other things I stress over and try to keep pushed back into the recesses of my mind, since they're things I can't change anyhow! :(

I made an appt. for 9/10 at 1:30. I'll be glad to get this done!!!!!!!!!

Good for you. If the results are bad, you will find out immediately. If you don't hear anything right away, don't spend your time worrying about it. When you finish the mammogram, take yourself out for ice cream or some kind of treat to reward yourself for doing the right thing.

Sorry...I somehow missed this until now...

A lot of times it is the technician's error, or the equipment's inconsistency that causes a 'call back'

My mom had this done when they did not get a smooth picture of the side of the breast tissue that they PULL from around under your armpit (FUN!) and there was a shadow on the film.

I am glad that you got an appointment soon.

I've had multiple occasions throughout the years (yeah, starting in my 20's I think??) where I'd be called back (for additional mammos and sometimes an ultrasound here and there).

I had very fibrocystic breasts since my teens, which meant my ta-ta's were forever changing and getting lumpy and of course, spots and such would appear and be felt.

Your appointment is right around the corner. Keep posting, and feel free to vent. We're here for ya!! :)

Don't worry too much. I know that is way easier said than done, but I work at a doctor's office and most of the time it's just sense breast tissue. That being said, I totally understand why you're scared, but I honestly don't think you need to be at all! Everything is going to be okay. :)

Hi All!
Everything turned out good!
When the technologist came back and said it was just dense breast tissue, I thanked her, walked to my car, got in, and burst into tears, bawling like a baby!!
The strange thing is that even though I felt such a huge sense of relief, I've still been feeling some residual anxiety....is this normal?!
I was doing so very well before this all happened! :(
But do not get me wrong-I am truly thankful that I did not have to have a biopsy!

Now you have experience so if it happens again, you shouldn't have as bad of a reaction. Just remember that the doctors are being super vigilant.

Janet it is very common for this to happen, typically the person performing the mammogram will tell you, or rather they have always told me, " Don't be worried if you get a call back or a letter wanting to repeat the test, it could be a simple crease in the breast or a little mole that showed up as unusual".

In fact this year when me and my mom went, she did have to go back and it was fine, I like that they do take that extra step in making sure it was their issue, but it does worry you until you get it done.


Oh so glad every thing turned out Janet, I just saw this thread and obviously I am way behind the times, very happy that you are doing well, and okay.

...and yes, sometimes our anxiety doesn't get 'cease and desist' orders right away!

Hopefully by now you have had time to process all of the feelings you were going through, and are feeling better!

Many times, you survive a traumatic incident because your adrenaline kicks in. Once the incident ha passed , then you react with tears and anxiety. Very common reaction.
