Good Evening!
For the past 2 years I have experienced panic attacks and general anxiety off and on. I am currently taking Zoloft and it has done absolute wonders to help quell my symptoms. I started Zoloft during September of 2012. I then weaned off of it during September of 2013 and had panic attacks return during November of 2013. I started back up on the Zoloft and have been doing great up until the past 2 weeks.
The biggest trigger to my anxiety and panic attack episodes is driving on the interstate. My very first panic attack that I ever had occurred while I was driving on the interstate, so I assume this is why interstate driving triggers this in me. I work an hour away from my home, so taking the interstate is the quickest and most efficient route for me to take. I was doing quite well with interstate driving until just 2 weeks ago. For whatever reason, while driving I started to think about my panic attack issues and sure enough, I started to have one. Luckily I was close to an exit and took an alternative route to work. Since then, I have been too terrified to drive on the interstate for fear that the panic attacks will return.
I have an appointment with my doctor in October. I assume she will probably recommend that I up my dosage of Zoloft. She has warned me that I could start to have break out panic attacks once my body became used to the current dosage. I would very much like to avoid having to up my dosage, as, ultimately, I do not want to be a slave to Zoloft for the rest of my life!
Has anyone on here tried Hypnotherapy to hep with anxiety? I have been doing research on this and it seems like it might be a promising method of therapy. It seems, from what I have read, that it can be a helpful tool when dealing with phobias such as mine.
You guys are so great and I really appreciate all of your help!
