Hi Arella and welcome.
First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. It is easy to see how such a tragic event could trigger anxiety for you.
Hormones certainly do factor in, so know that you are not alone with this issue. We have numerous threads on how the female cycle can ramp up anxiety and symptoms.
Since your anxiety seems health focused, I am going to print some links for you to check out.

They are helpful tools to guide you through understanding this issue, and also offer suggestions for recovery.
You may also want to talk to the new doctor that you find about a possible therapy referral for further help if you find yourself in need of more help.
An OB may also be able to help you get your hormone levels checked and in balance if you find that treating this from an anxiety angle is not sufficient to help you feel better.
