Well emotions are the byproducts of our thought processes. The first step is learning ways to manage your thinking patters. This is where CBT, and mantras, and distraction come in. Finding fun things to do when your thoughts get out of control.
I'm having intrusive thoughts about my "mother" and they make me anxious, but if I can distract myself and get out, I find that sometimes, very often, just being able to break the pattern of that negative self talk can be enough to give me a break from feeling pelted with negative thoughts.! :)
