I've had a cough for a couple weeks and I feel like it's getting better. So we're (husband , son and I) are at a Halloween thing for kids. I'm coughing like I have been and my husband says, you should get that checked, maybe it's cancer. Seriously? Why would he say something like that? Now that's all I can think about. The fun I was having is pretty much ruined.

Sometimes people say the strangest things, not thinking how their statement might affect the other person. Just chalk it up to insensitivity (you know how some men can be)....I'm sure you're fine. I've had coughs that have lasted six weeks....I once had laryngitis for three months!

I'm just really scared now. I have been really achy too. Never mind the fact that I always get a cough after I have a cold. My husband is being super mean to me now too. Telling me he feels sorry for our son because of me and that I should just be on medication already. Makes things that much worse. Feeling hopeless today.

Andwes is right! We, men, can say the darnedest things! My wife has done a fabulous job at training me to "think before I speak" or suffer the consequences!

It's that time of the year where the weather is starting to turn so colds, coughs, and sore throats are in order!

Get yourself some cold and cough medicine from the store and you will be just fine!

If you want to get even with your hubby, tell him his hair line is receding and you think he is going bald! (Just kidding)

It's always nice to hear from you (despite these circumstances)! Hang in there girl!

Thanks Cornell! Yeah I've been a little MIA This last week. I had a crazy school week. 4 hours of sleep every night . Miss you guys. Hoping to chime in on some posts this weekend.

I am really sorry that your fun what cut short by an insensitive comment...that is a shame.

A productive cough after a cold/virus is normal and actually a good thing!

Try not to let an uninformed statement undo your efforts to manage your anxiety.

...the last thing I knew...you were the only one close to being a doctor in the family!! ;p

You are going to be okay. Use your humidifier to keep everything loose, and moving up and out of your lungs.

Oh my gosh MG, you poor thing!!! I'm so sorry he said that! I think I would've knocked him out. Do not worry one bit about it, but if your cough keeps up for another week or two, just run over to the doctor. Having a good GP who understands you and your situation is so important. Hugs to you and glad to hear from you! I was starting to worry about you!

Just read your other post.... He said he feels sorry for your son because of you!?!?!?!?

I know that is hurtful and not even conceivable to think about.

I have read posts where you have worried yourself sick over your son. You have spent years and years in school and countless hours of studying each night (on top of your regular mothers duties) to make a better life for your family. You are a GREAT mother and your son is very lucky and blessed to have you as a mother! And somehow you find the time to come on here to support and encourage others!

You have such a quiet, loving, and compassionate spirit and you deserve better than that. Do not listen to that garbage!

You ARE an amazing woman and a wonderful mother!

Trying hard not to judge but that statement he made seems to be very selfish. He is your husband, he should encourage you to chase your dreams! He should support you and be your number one fan! But I'm sure you already know this.

Like SC said, there is some deeper things that's going on. Go to your "quiet" place and calm down. This is unnecessary stress that you don't need right now.

Missgigi, try not to get effected by those words. People sometimes can say things without thinking. I agree with all others, bothering yourself with his words will make you suffer. Try to calm down.

Maybe he intentionally mentioned cancer since he knows you are sensitive.
As for your cough, I am pretty sure that it has nothing to do with lung cancer. Rest assured, I know from my dad's health check ups <3
Cough can sometimes be persistent. Even psychological...

Oh no! I hope you feel better. Maybe it's allergies. Mine have been crazy this year. My husband does that to me too. A couple weeks ago when I was having my vision issues, he said maybe you have a tumor on your optic nerve. Awesome. Husbands can be insensitive sometimes.

this Cat has been known to bite, scratch and hiss...Lol!

But yes, it would be nice if all partners were more sensitive to the other's triggers and vulnerable points!!

Yes cat your right! Us women can be just as insensitive. :) I've been known to pick done fights with my hubby a time or two ;)

Oh no. I'm so sorry your going through all of this. I completely understand. Sometimes husband gets so frustrated with me he says things that hurt. He says my daughter is going to get my "crazy" issues and I'm too wrapped up in what's happening to me I'm neglecting everyone else and if I don't start paying attention to him he's going to get a girlfriend. It's really sad. I don't really have an answer but I know how you feel. Try and get some sleep I hope you feel a little better tomorrow.
