THIS one scared me today - forgetfulness

As you know, my anxiety has been in overdrive for months. Today was especially bad with the grey, rainy weather and nothing much to do except worry about my anxiety. Anyway, I was at the ATM machine and my pin number (that I've used very frequently for three years) totally escaped me. Well I remembered the four numbers but not the sequence. And that REALLY set me off to thinking "this is it....I have Alzheimers." And you know how episodes like this can throw you into a ramped up form of anxiety/panic. After a couple of hours of racking my brain, I figured it out but can't understand WHY I would just suddenly forget it. Does anyone have forgetfulness from anxiety?

COUNT ME here !forget numbers ,passwords ,spellings and so many things that doc wanna dig my brain ~I am saying it memory loss and need to register already to "home of alzheimer care " and need to start saving ...lol

something to do with anxiety or panic or fear (as my case because of trauma and abuse ).

I had a strange experience with my mobile phone's pin number once and I was only 24. I forgot the number I knew better than my birthday. It happens really even though Alzheimer isn't the issue...

Yes! I've had this happen too. Scared me so much. It was just last week, I wish I could remember what it was. Hahaha...I can't remember what it was, but it was was something that I SHOULD know, that I always know. I think when you've got a lot of other things on your mind (anxiety will do that!) and then a momentary lapse in recall happens and becomes something really scary and even bigger to those of us with anxiety. I'm sure it was just "one of those things"!

Yes....when my anxiety is bad I don't know what Im doing most the time...start putting things in odd places, forget lots of things....I figure our brains are busy just trying to manage the anxiety that cognitive function becomes impaired....I even have trouble getting words out....its not permanent.

Oh thank you all so much. You have restored my faith in my brain function...for awhile anyway. Even with terrible anxiety, I have always felt confident that i still had all my cognitive abilities, could carry on a normal conversation (even though feeling like a crazy person inside) and was hiding my terrible anxiety monster from everyone....ha ha. I even felt great last week when organizing a trip next summer for my eight girlfriends and I, when one of them thanked me for doing all the work and commented "you're so sharp figuring all this stuff out." Well that went down the tubes in a heartbeat when I blanked out on that darn pin number...something I use EVERY day. I suddenly thought "OK, the jig is up...now everyone's going to know she's got a screw loose and we'll have to start checking out nursing homes for the poor soul...LOL!!! I have come to realize from this episode that I hide everything from people...except you folks, of course. i have terrible health anxiety yet like most people who go to the doctor constantly to find out what's wrong, I just plain avoid doctors for fear of what I'm going to find out and don't want anyone to know what a horrible disease I'm SURE I have. And of course I try desperately to hide the anxiety too. it's a cowardly thing on my part but it sure does help to know I at least have all you folks to turn to and allow me to "vent" all my craziness without the fear of being labeled. I do agree that with all this anxiety crowding our poor brains, its tough sometimes to maintain any other info in there. And I also love the way we can all laugh at ourselves sometimes...they say it's the best medicine and I believe that wholeheartedly. So thanks again all you kind, caring folks....if I had any money, I'd leave you all some in my will, but I couldn't remember the combination to my safe anyway so...sorry.
