Just getting very panicky a day before my dentist visit because...

Don't you just love this disorder? We always assume the worst when the least little things happens to us.

I can tell you that you will be just fine but that probably won't be enough.

So let me tell you this. Have courage!!! I promise you will not die of a red spot in your mouth before Tuesday. I am no dentist or oral surgeon but I get redness in my gums and mouth quite often. I would "bet the farm" that this is a normal occurence and not serious at all

You have been a member of HW for well over 3 years so that tells me that you have been battling the anxiety beast for quite awhile! I am pretty certain there is nothing I can tell you about dealing with this "situation" that you haven't heard or already know. Now is the time to deploy everything you have learned throughout the years. You have educated yourself and that is admirable. Apply it!

To you, this seems mega doom ( an area of redness ), but to us seems silly to be so upset about, only because you have  obsessed over that area and we haven't. I'm sure if I get the magnifying mirror out and start looking inside my mouth I would also see redness, veins and stuff that just looks nasty. The difference between you and I is I see nothing abnormal while you see or imagine something horrible. This reminds me of a horrible anxiety period in my life where I was always tasting blood and sometimes spitting out some, I was insane with fear that I was bleeding to death or had a terrible disease, finally I went to the dentist and lo and behold I had gingivitus ( spell check), that was causing the sometimes blood in my mouth, but man I know how you feel I was very very scared. It is horrible how anxiety does this to us. You will be just fine, I promise. Big Big hugs.

Don't you apologize!!!!!! That's why we're here... To support and encourage one another!!! I hope you didn't take my other post as being "too direct".

No matter how far we think we have come, sometimes it can sneak back in and catch us "off guard" and unprepared. That's when we need reminded by our friends to get back on the horse and fight, fight, fight.

I enjoy reading your posts. You bring a lot to this board. You have overcame so much and you will overcome this too!

I've put off my visit because I'm scared to go. I'll go eventually.

You are never bothering us with your worries. Ever. Even if you need to repeat the same fear daily. That's what we are here for.

I had to chuckle when you said you'd thought of emailing me a picture so I could text my dentist friend. I'd totally do that BUT, would it calm you down orrrr, what if he said "I don't know, just let her dentist look at it." Would that make you worry more?

I'm asking you things my therapist has asked me when I've told him about googling symptoms. He said "what answer are you looking for?" I said "I want the site to say "Lisa, you do not have this horrible disease and you are ok." He said "you're never going to find that answer so is it helping you or hurting you googling symptoms?" The truth is- it hurts me bc I'm rarely satisfied w/answers or more common, I find hysterical people who post some horror story that ruined there life. No thanks! lol. Hence, I've greatly limited my googling (but don't think I'm tempted at times & sometimes succumb to it).

You have less than 48 hrs before your visit. Like Cornell said, you will not only survive, you likely will find out Tuesday that absolutely nothing is wrong. If we can think the worst, why can't we try to think the best? Hmmm. I'm going to write that down and stick a note to my mirror!

So I know that's easier said than done but we will hold your hand while you're waiting for this visit and do not hesitate to keep posting for comfort. We are all here with open arms to hug you when you're scared!

Ps: my husband gave me that SAME look today. I'm not worried tho bc he knows I'm a bit neurotic and he married me anyway 😜
