Starting new job on Monday!

Just got a text that I will be training at my new job this coming Monday. It's just working at a new gas station/restaurant in my tiny little town that is just opening up but it is so close to my house I can walk. Right now I have a half hour drive one way to my other job and the winter weather in Iowa gets nasty. So I'm looking forward to making a smidge more money at this job and not having the hassle of driving as far or the money wasted on gas.

I will be keeping both jobs though. Both will be part time and I will just make it work. I have to be honest and say it makes me nervous (I know who would've guessed?) that I won't be able to keep up with school work and home life but I'm sure I'll manage. Overall I shouldn't be working more hours it will just be less at my other job.

What do you guys think? I'm nervous but a little excited. I've wanted to move on from my current job but am always afraid to leave and go through job hunting and interviewing again. Of course I didn't want to work at a gas station but this is like an easy way for me to test out how I feel somewhere other than my current job. You know I'm afraid to leave my job because we all the think the grass is greener on the other side and then sometimes you leave and realize to late what you had. So this is a way to check it out without giving anything up.

I agree with you les about not caring what people think. I know I shouldn't but I do. It's not just that though. I have always wanted more. Human Services is actually what I was planning on getting my degree in hoping to be able to help people who have gone through stuff. To maybe be there for someone like nobody was for me?

I am a VERY social person. Probably pretty easy to tell from my novel length posts. Most of the time though I hate my job in retail. I love talking to people and helping them and I adore most of my coworkers. People in general though are getting nastier and nastier and it really brings me down. I'm treated like dirt at my job quite often and it is very demeaning. There is also the fact that I've worked there for five years and make less money than I made as a teen in the 90's working at a pizza place.

So what I'm saying is neither one of these jobs are what I'd want to do. I'd never want to move up with the store I work at, I have no desire for that type of job. For now though I'm doing what I have to do. Once Christmas is paid for and bills are getting caught up I think I'll feel so much better. It's gonna be a hard road until then though.

PS - Lisa, funny you mentioned that you would "scoop poop"! I am starting a scoop pooping business and we are hiring poop scoopers. I will make you the head pooper scooper supervisor if you're interested?
