Cornell, it made my day when you said you loved my other poem and that it touched you so much that you nearly cried! WOW! It's not that I get a kick out of making folks cry, but to think I could write something that mattered to someone is so....well, AMAZING to me! Thank you for one of the best compliments I ever got!
Janet
I wrote this, in part, based on the movie with Bette Davis. But in other was, it is autobiographical too....
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?
This never-never child
Lives in a never-never land.
She never grows up
But watches the hand
Of the old wooden clock
There on the stand.
As time slips by
Her body grows old
Yet she's ever a good girl,
Doing what she's told.
Those lines on her face
Are traces of the past
And the road map to her future...
The die's been cast.
Some wonder, whatever happened
To Baby Jane?
She lived in her house
And slowly went insane.
She was a never-never child
That never should have been
Just being born,
That was her biggest sin.
She does her penance
By living through each day
'Though it surely seems
Such a high price to pay.

janetlee,
What a talent you have. Rhyme schemes are hard to do without making them sound cliché or tacky. You, however, have a way with placing those words that present them in a delicate and intriguing manner. You definitely have a gift! I simply love this poem as well. Maybe even more so than the last, I'm just not sure! They are both simply lovely!
