Buspar or Wellbutrin?

I am having breakthrough anxiety and some mild depression even though I am on 225 mg Effexor XR. I am having a tough time deciding which one would be better to add that would be more effective.

I hate taking a new medication so I am nervous about taking either one, but I have to...so would you recommend Buspar or Wellbutrin?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I take buspar, alone. I got to tell you, it gets quite mixed reviews. The good think about it is that it's side effects are super mild. Maybe a little dizziness when taking it in the morning on an empty stomach, little drowsiness...but that's about it. But it works for some people and doesn't for others, just like any other medication. When I was super anxious, buspar couldn't touch it. I had much more sucess with xanax.

How long have you been on the Buspar? What dosage do you take?

I was on it about 5 years ago for just over a year. And this time I've been on it since April. I take 30 mg, but I have been as high as 60 mg (very short period of time).

I should add that it takes quite a bit of time to get into your system, about the same time as an ssri (3-4 weeks). But there are no discontinuation symptoms when quitting or missing a dose.

However, I am sorry to hear that it is due to anxiety returning.:(

Do you see a GP or a psych for your scripts?

When considering an add-on, I think the expertise of the latter may be a real boon.

Have you discussed with your dr., and are now just doing your reasearch?

Other additions that I know of besides Wellbutrin are:

*Abilify
*Lamictal
*Deplin

I have NO idea whether they are appropriate for you and your existing Rx...so you'll need to discuss this with your dr. I am just throwing out ideas.;)
