Trying to calm myself

And its working so so. Today I woke up early frima bad dream, got in the computer and took my mind off things. Went back to bed and didnt wake up til 10:30 am. I felt lazy and since im on vacation just decided to lay on the sofa all day. I have IBS and aboit lunch I was getting hungry, but I felt really bloated. I decided to get up and eat something anyway. When I stood up, my heart skipped a beat. It sent me into panic, and kept skipping a beat about every 10th beat or so. I felt weaker, but kept making dinner. The skips only lasted about 2 minutes, then half hour later it skipped again for a few minutes. They have since went away, but now I cant get my mind off them.


Took my xanax and feel calm. Got a bunch of gas tunny grumbling going on. And I can feel some nerve pricks in my neck and shoulder so I know im really tense. My doc doesnt know im getting these palps, which this is only like the 5th time its happened. But my heart passed every test up to and including treadmill stress echo last March. So im sure things are fine(if you feel im not let me know please). Im pretty sure the bloat from IBS pressed on the vagus nerve, or so I think, and thats what set my heart skipping. But as I said, I lay here reading all I can about palps. How can I stop obsessing for the evening??

Hey Trader- if you passed all the heart tests, I wouldn't worry about the palps. Have you had a holter monitor? That would be the only other thing that they might have you do if you told them about the palps. But, since you passed all the other tests fine, I'm sure you are just having the nuisance palps that so many of us have. I was "lucky" to be having a bunch one time when I went to the ER so I was told with great certainty that they were benign and try to ignore them. Easier said than done, I know. The more you concentrate on them though, the worse they are.

i would call your doc and tell him about what you are feeling, even just to calm your own nerves about it! Happy New Year!

SC, thank you. No, I hadnt eaten all day,'til lunch. I do have hypoglycemia, I never check it. Usually runs around 82. Maybe it took a dip from not eating? The IBS, not sure whats triggering it, but the probiotics(VSL3) see to help with the bloat. Each and every time the skips start, I get a weird feeling 2-3 inches above my belly button that feels like gas rumbling, or something moving. I can time the skip with that feeling. Weird. I did buy some sweets the past couple days, after having gotten rid of all sugary foods for months. Maybe that contributed also.

My coping skills have never worked(mainly breathing). The only thing that stops them is laying down, a cool drink of water or iced tea, and bearing down. At these times I just want to go to the ER, even though they only last a few minutes. But as I said, heart is healthy from tests last March, I cant see much changing from then 'til now. So I bear through it. Happy New Years to you SC, thanks again for always being here!

Im glad to know im not alone, though sorry to see so many have them. I think if I just knew it wasnt going to kill me, id be ok with it :D Seriously, they scare the crap out of me, and possibly dying from them is a real fear. Everyone says theyre benign, and I only get them occasionally. Seems many have them daily and live quite easily. Hope you have a great New Years!
