I think I figured myself out. When I was growing up, pretty much everything was easy for me. School was easy and I hardly ever got sick. If it wasn't simple, could quit. Golf, whatever. Being an adult isn't as simple. I still act like a kid and don't want to work for anything. How do I grow up and change?

Maybe as an adult you haven't found something that really sparks your interest and motivates you to not be lazy about
it. I can be a little lazy, but when I'm really into something or it's something I'm passionate about
, then I get off my lazy butt. I had jobs that I just went to and didn't care much about
and therefore I didn't give it my all, didn't get all dressed up for work. Then I got a job that I loved and I started dressing the part, getting to work early and staying late, trying to make my work impressive and not just adequate. Maybe you need some inspiration.

...I don't like the term laziness...at least in your case.
I think that procrastination has more to do with fear and anxiety. We fear failing, or not being or doing enough...so we get mired down, and do nothing. It is safer that way...no risk.
...or maybe we let things go to the point of becoming paralyzed and not even knowing how to get started?
Starting with a small steps...continued work on anxiety management...healing from loss...all of these things are postive moves in the right direction.
The fact that you are thinking of these things and seeking to make a change speaks against the fact that you are 'lazy'.
...find the motivation, it's there...just temporarily hidden?
...baby steps...

I like what S.C. had to say. I think she's right. A lot of us over-thinking, type A types find it easier to not start something or quit something than risk not being good enough or doing our best. I know, I'm the same way. I talked about
vet school for a long time before I decided to put myself out there and try to get in. For a long time it was much easier to talk about
it as a someday "what if", than to actually take the risk (and possible rejection) of applying. I think you know what you want to do, make a plan to do it! We've got your back, you can do it!!

Megan, I have no passion for my job and hate so much about
it. I'm passionate about
screwing around online. Haha.
Scaredy, love all that.
Gigi, props to you. I dropped out of undergrad my senior year and it took me four years to go back. The pride of getting my degree was nice for a while, but when loans came due, it dissipated.

So you're not lazy, you're just not excited. It's hard to go into a job you hate. Maybe casually look for a job you'd be more interested in?

Yeah. I hear you about
the loans. I'm kicking myself for carelessly following my dreams with little regard for the fact I'll be $160,000 in debt when I graduate and lucky to be making $60,000. I think that is part of the weight on me causing some of my anxiety.

Megan, I fear I'm not healthy enough.
Gigi, yeah, they don't tell you that.

John,
Do you make me if I ask what your health issues are? Aside from the ones I know of that you reference on here, what health issues do you have that would keep you from getting a new job?
You can obviously say, woman that is not your business. I'm just curious.
I remember once that Cornell was guessing at what he thought we looked like or what type of person he thought we were and you seek tough to me. Like sure you've had some bumps in the road, but you seem tough and witty and smart.

Well it sounds like there's reason for that though. Car accident?

Still a legit reason. Sucks, but it's legit. So you can't lift heavy stuff. While that is unfortunate, you are no less of an awesome man for it. There are a lot of things I can't do. I'm still awesome. :)

Thanks!
I'd have to say now that I have some background info, SC is right and lazy is the wrong word for you. This thread is no longer valid. ;)
